A Stunning Top-Floor Apartment with High Ceilings in a Former Church
This unique two-bedroom apartment is located in a former church building in a southern suburb of Stockholm. The apartment is located on the top floor of the early 20th-century church, which means it has wonderfully high ceilings, exposed wooden beams, and windows in three directions.
The apartment pairs historical architecture with contemporary design solutions. It has a wonderful open-plan living space and kitchen with five meter high ceilings and a balcony. On this floor is also a bedroom, while a staircase in the living room gives access to a charming loft area that is used as a second bedroom.
The open-plan living space runs the entire length of the building and features windows in three directions, a small balcony that is a wonderful extension to the living space in the warmer months, and a fireplace in the center of the room.
The owners created a cozy dining area by the window and the glass balcony doors. Decorated with plants and a large wooden folding table, this is the natural gathering point in the apartment.
The kitchen features sober blue cabinet doors pairs with a black-painted oak countertop, backsplash, and shelf.
The light blue Falcon stove is a wonderful eye-catcher in the kitchen, the fan is from Fjäråskupan.
This site-built solid oak storage element is part of the black wrought iron staircase leading to the loft. It is a wonderful dynamic and functional furniture piece.
A small fireplace sits between the kitchen and the sitting area.
On the other side of the room, the owners created a cozy sitting area decorated in blue tones.
The staircase is fully integrated in the cabinet that also has space for a television. A gallery wall leads you to the loft area.
The loft area is located under the characteristic church tower. The walls are painted in Jotun’s soft pink shade “Senses”.
The other bedroom is now a charming children’s room with slanted ceilings and two large dormer windows.
One wall is painted in Jotun’s deep blue shade “St Paul” and there is plenty of storage in the form of open IKEA cabinets, a bunk bed with storage underneath, a blue wardrobe, and built-in wardrobes under the slanted ceiling.
White drawer cabinets separate the room into two areas, with a desk on one side and the sleeping area on the other.
The bathroom is small but well-planned and stylish. On one side, there is a cabinet and shelves in dark-stained oak topped with a black and white Moroccan-style sink.
The other side of the room features an egg-shaped bath and blue-painted storage shelves.
The hall is a magnificent welcome to the apartment. The walls are decorated with blue William Morris wallpaper and the niche is fitted with built-in wardrobes, painted blue.
