Wooden Floor and a Bistro-Style Kitchen in a Swedish 1930s Apartment
On the first floor of a 1930s apartment building in Sweden’s second city, Gothenburg, lies this charming one-bedroom apartment decorated with art and a charming bistro-style kitchen.
The 48-square-meter apartment has been well-maintained over the years, and features engineered wooden floors, a renovated kitchen and bathroom, and original elements from the beginning of the last century.

The entry hall separates the apartment into the living room and bedroom on one side, facing the street, and the kitchen on the other side, facing the courtyard.

The living room is a cozy, small room with wooden floorboards treated with white pigment to preserve their natural color. The white walls are decorated with art and bookshelves, adding a cozy, personal touch.

A small sitting area is situated in front of the window, featuring a low leather sofa and a large coffee table.

On the other side of the living room, a cozy dining area has been created with a wooden folding table, a wooden bench, and two chairs.

The new west-facing window in a traditional style lets in plenty of natural light, adding a fresh and bright atmosphere to the room.

The bedroom is located next to the living room. The walls are painted in NSC Color S3000N, a calming gray hue that looks beautiful in a bedroom.

Four floor-to-ceiling wardrobes add plenty of storage. The wardrobe wall is created using the IKEA Platsa cabinets with mirror doors painted in the same gray hue as the walls.

The kitchen is situated on the other side of the hall, facing the courtyard. The kitchen was renovated a couple of years ago, featuring frames and gray mirror doors from IKEA.

The classic gray cabinets are paired with a Carrara marble countertop, a butler sink, and white metro tiles. White shelves (instead of cabinets) add storage while maintaining an open feel.

The kitchen features a preserved cold pantry with the original door from the 1930s.

Opposite the kitchen cabinets, the owners added a charming dining area in front of the exposed brick wall featuring the IKEA donut lamp from the VARMBLIXT collection, designed by Sabine Marcelis.

The hall is also painted in a gray tone (NCS S2500N) and features an IKEA IVAR cabinet with a round mirror and two floor-to-ceiling wardrobes (IKEA PLATSA cabinets) painted the same color as the walls.
