A Beautiful 1920s Villa in West Sweden with a Romantic Garden
This beautiful Swedish villa in the coastal town of Varberg is a home where nearly a century of history has been carefully preserved while embracing a refined, contemporary way of living.
The home, set behind mature greenery on a romantic garden plot, belongs to well-known Swedish content creator Kristin Lagerqvist and her family, but after ten years, they have decided to let a new family enjoy this beautiful home.

Built in 1926 after a design by Thorwald Söderberg, who also designed Varberg’s iconic railway station, the villa has lived many lives, including a bakery, an antique store, a creative agency, and a family home.
The light ochre facade gives the home a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The symmetrical architecture, elegant bay window, and delicate lattice windows embody the restrained elegance of 1920s Swedish homes.

Inside, generous ceiling heights and windows on multiple sides flood each room with natural light, while original details, including wooden floorboards, moldings, mirrored doors, stucco, and brass fittings, have been lovingly preserved or faithfully restored.

The ground floor is designed for entertaining and everyday family life. Three living spaces flow gracefully into one another, allowing light to also flow throughout the home and creating a nice connection between the individual rooms.

Beautiful gray-green sliding doors separate the living room from the dining room. When opened, it creates a lovely sight line through the three main living spaces.

The dining room is located in the middle, with a large square table topped with marble, providing ample seating for long dinner nights with friends and family.

On this side, the sliding doors are painted in a lovely pale blue shade.

The library room features blue built-in bookcases and pale blue walls. It’s the perfect work-from-home spot, or a nice reading room when you add a comfortable armchair.

The kitchen balances classic design with everyday functionality. Floor-to-ceiling cabinetry is painted in a soft gray hue paired with marble worktops, brass hardware, and glazed cabinet doors.

The central island is the social hub, with bar seating for breakfast or homework.

Upstairs, a generous second sitting room stretches across the front of the house, where almost full-height windows fill the space with daylight, and French doors open onto a balcony overlooking the surrounding greenery.

The master bedroom is a serene haven, color-drenched in a beige-yellow hue and featuring beautiful wooden floorboards. The room also features a spacious walk-in wardrobe.

On the other side, blue sliding doors give access to a home office.

The house has two staircases. The main entrance features gray, tiled flooring and green-painted stairs.

Outside, the villa’s garden feels like a series of outdoor rooms, each offering its own distinct atmosphere.

Directly beyond the kitchen, hand-laid Bohus granite paving leads to sunny terraces and a mosaic swimming pool surrounded by timber decking and multiple lounge areas.

Beyond the pool, gravel paths wind through vegetable beds, herb gardens, fruit trees, and flowering borders. At the center of the garden stands a black-framed greenhouse filled with climbing vines and warmed by a wood-burning stove.
