Bespoke Furniture in a Restored Seaside Apartment in England
Moreton Court in St Leonards-on-Sea is a grand 19th-century building with views of the English Channel. In the 1930s, this building used to be a hotel, but it now houses apartments and one of these apartments was completely restored by the owner of West St Studio architecture and design studio.
The two-bedroom apartment was lovingly restored, uncovering and preserving charming original features while adding bespoke fittings. Floorboards and joinery were stripped back to expose the original woodwork, and contemporary birch ply fittings were added to pair the original elements with modern-day design.

Now that’s what I call a room with a view! The large tripartite window offers views of the Channel, Hastings’ Pier, and even the Seven Sisters cliffs on a clear day.

The original pine floorboards pair beautifully with the exposed joinery and the muted blue shade on the walls.

The room is small but with these windows and high ceilings it feels airy and spacious.

The owner fitted a multifunctional kitchen and dining area with a curved bespoke birch ply table in the center and open and closed cabinets against the wall.

Behind the kitchen lies a small utility space with a washing machine, a sink, and Lisilux wall-mounted lights by Thomas Hoof.

Next to the living room lies the smaller bedroom that is now used as a beautiful home office with a birch ply desk and a large window offering the same sea views as the living room.

The hallway is painted in a vibrant coral shade. The small bathroom has tactile tiled walls, a corner sink with a round mirror, and a rain-style shower head.

In the bedroom, the owner also added a custom birch-ply furniture piece that serves as a wardrobe space, shelving, and a headboard.

The apartment was listed for £340,000 at The Modern House.
