This Cozy Blue Has Been Named Valspar’s 2027 Color of the Year

It’s that time of year when we start looking forward to the new year, with leading paint brands and color institutes releasing their color of the year 2027. And the first to reveal their next trending color is Valspar!

Valspar has revealed Cottage Door as its 2027 Color of the Year, introducing a soft, grayed-blue shade that reflects a growing desire for calm, authenticity, and meaningful living, following in the footsteps of its previous colors, “Warm Eucalyptus” and “Encore.”

Warm undertones give the color an inviting quality, making it feel both timeless and welcoming, while its understated elegance allows it to work across a wide range of interiors and design styles.

According to Valspar, Cottage Door captures a broader cultural movement toward intentional living and self-reflection. As homes increasingly become places of restoration rather than simply places to live, the color is designed to create spaces that encourage comfort, trust, and emotional grounding.

Rather than making a bold statement, the muted blue offers quiet sophistication, bringing a sense of stability without feeling formal or overly traditional.

Valspar Color Expert Sue Kim describes Cottage Door as a reflection of “our collective longing for security, trust and the enduring value of authenticity.” She also notes that mid-tone blue-grays are becoming increasingly popular for interiors that feel deeply personal and enduring, whether combined with brighter accent colors or layered with natural materials to create a more organic atmosphere.

Cottage Door sits at the heart of Valspar’s Soft Minimalism design direction for 2027. This aesthetic celebrates the beauty of natural materials, handcrafted details, and imperfect finishes, embracing authenticity over perfection.

Rather than stark minimalism, Soft Minimalism introduces warmth through tactile textures, muted colors, and carefully curated spaces that feel relaxed and lived-in.

The palette combines the gentle blue-gray from Cottage Door with a soft blush and warm greige to create interiors that feel peaceful without becoming cold or sterile.

To complement Cottage Door, Valspar has selected two coordinating colors that reinforce this calming palette. Apricot Blush, a muted creamy pink, introduces a subtle warmth and soothing softness that brings a gentle ambiance to living rooms, bedrooms, or reading nooks.

Moon Shot, a warm human-centered gray, serves as a versatile backdrop for minimalist interiors while adding depth without overpowering a space.

Together, the three colors create an uplifting combination that balances serenity with optimism.
