Behr Names Grounded Its 2027 Color of the Year
Behr Paint Company has announced Grounded as its 2027 Color of the Year. Sitting somewhere between olive and moss green, the earthy shade has subtle brown undertones that give it a warm, natural appearance.
Grounded reflects the continuing move toward interiors that feel calm, comfortable, and closely connected to nature. It is a versatile green that brings color into a room without becoming overwhelming, making it suitable for everything from kitchens and living rooms to bedrooms and home offices.
“Grounded is a reminder that the most meaningful spaces are the ones that help us connect with the rhythms of everyday life,” says Kayla Kratz, Head of Color at Behr Paint Company. “The shade’s organic warmth creates a sense of calm and renewal, making every room feel inviting and effortlessly livable.”
An Earthy Green Made for Everyday Interiors
Muted greens have become a reliable choice in contemporary interiors, largely because they are easy to live with and work well alongside natural materials.
Grounded is no exception. Its blend of moss, olive, and brown gives it a warm, established character that pairs naturally with wood, stone, linen, rattan, and aged metals.
Used on all four walls, the color can create an intimate, restful atmosphere. It could also bring new life to kitchen cabinetry, built-in shelving, doors, or a single feature wall.
Paired with creamy whites and warm beige, Grounded feels soft and understated. Paired with clay red, dusty pink, or deep burgundy, it takes on a richer, more expressive character.
The shade also reflects a broader desire for homes that offer relief from an increasingly busy world. Research commissioned by Behr found that 77% of Americans turn to nature when life feels chaotic.
Meanwhile, 86% said DIY and decorating projects help them feel grounded by letting them create a safe, comforting place to retreat and recharge.
Color plays an important role in that process. According to the same research, 84% of respondents believe choosing the right paint color is essential to making a space feel like home.
The Behr 2027 Color Trends Palette
Grounded sits at the heart of Behr’s 2027 Color Trends Palette, a collection inspired by the colors and balance of the natural world.
The palette brings together warm neutrals, earthy shades, muted pink, clay tones, and airy blues, offering plenty of scope for creating layered and harmonious interiors.

The collection also reintroduces seven colors from the Behr archive: Coastal Beige, Wheat Grass, Environment, Denim Light, Smokey Claret, Sarsaparilla, and Mozart.
Each has been selected to complement Grounded, whether used in adjoining rooms, as an accent, or as part of a more varied color scheme.
The softer shades keep Grounded as the focus, while colors such as Smokey Claret and Sarsaparilla add contrast and depth. Together, the palette offers an approachable way to add color while keeping a calm, cohesive look.
Ten Years of Behr’s Color of the Year
The launch of Grounded marks the tenth anniversary of Behr’s Color of the Year program. During the past decade, the annual announcement has evolved from a straightforward trend forecast into a broader reflection of how changing lifestyles influence the colors people choose for their homes.
To celebrate the anniversary, Behr is donating $250,000 to Habitat for Humanity. The contribution will support affordable homeownership programs, including construction materials and other resources that help families build comfortable, stable homes.
Beginning August 27, Behr will also invite people to nominate a friend or family member to receive $5,000 to help transform their home into a more comforting sanctuary. Entry details will be available through pinned posts on the brand’s Instagram and TikTok accounts.
