IKEA Introduces VALNÄS: An Oak and Brass Living Room Series

Introduced in the October launch and designed by Nike Karlsson, IKEA’s new VALNÄS living room series blends classic influences, modern comfort, and thoughtful details.

The VALNÄS collection is a living room series designed for everyday comfort and flexibility. Each piece has a distinct character, while shared materials and finishes create a cohesive collection.

The collection includes two- and three-seater sofas, an ottoman, a coffee table, a side table, and a trolley, combining soft silhouettes with light oak surfaces and brass-colored accents.

The designer behind the series is Nike Karlsson, whose previous work for IKEA includes the popular STOCKHOLM wicker chair. His approach to VALNÄS draws on traditional furniture design, reinterpreted for contemporary homes.

“The VALNÄS series arose from my idea of creating strong, independent furniture that also works well together. Sofas and sideboards are united by a common detail, a brass-colored cuff, as a nod to traditional brass wheels.

I worked from both intuition and classic references to introduce something unexpected, like the comfortable armrests that also catch the eye. The result is understated, yet distinctive furniture that is easy to combine,” says Nike Karlsson.

With its generous proportions and rounded silhouette, the VALNÄS sofa offers a relaxed place to settle in. Sculptural armrests give it a distinctive profile, while light oak veneer adds warmth and brass-colored feet provide a refined finishing touch.

Available in two- and three-seater versions, the sofa comes in light beige, dark gray-blue, and dark yellow-brown. Removable, machine-washable covers make everyday care straightforward.

The VALNÄS ottoman echoes the sofa’s soft lines and generous proportions. It can serve as a footstool or additional seat, or become an informal coffee table with a tray placed on top.

An elliptical shape gives the coffee table its understated character. A subtly raised edge defines the tabletop, while a crossed base balances visual lightness with stability.

The side table sits comfortably beside a sofa or bed, with an additional shelf offering space for everyday essentials.

Completing the collection, the trolley features a removable tray for carrying refreshments from the kitchen to the living room.

Across VALNÄS, consistent materials, considered proportions, and distinctive brass-colored details bring the pieces together. Designed to work individually or as a collection, the series offers a lasting foundation for a comfortable, welcoming living room.
