A Beautiful Former Summer House in Southern Sweden

I have spoken of my love for the Swedish countryside many times now. I have always had a dream of one day having a small home with a garden in Sweden. Is that day ever going to come? I don’t know, so for now, I have to look at beautiful homes that are put on the market, like this one in southern Sweden.

This charming turn-of-the-century villa, distinguished by its gray-painted mountain panels, small-paned windows, and exquisite carpentry, was among the first homes built in the idyllic seaside retreat of Falsterbo in 1901 by a Stockholm bank director.

Each summer, he would journey here with his wife, children, and household staff to enjoy the rejuvenating sea air and saltwater baths—an era when Falsterbo blossomed into a beloved southern haven, drawing ever more visitors year after year.

Lovingly preserved through the decades, this historic villa retains its authentic character. Original features such as whitewashed wooden floors, beadboard paneling, and vibrant period wallpaper blend seamlessly with the home’s timeless summerhouse charm.

The large living area with large windows, including a bay window overlooking the park, is the heart of the home centered around a brick fireplace. The walls are painted white, except the far wall, which is decorated in the “Acquario” by Cole and Son.

Original floorboards lie on the floor, adding a natural and historical touch to the space while also creating that lovely summer house vibe, especially in combination with the light colors and rattan furniture.

Through double doors in the living room, you can reach the idyllic glass veranda, which is framed by beautiful small-barred window sections in a period style and a glazed double door out to a paved patio. The walls are decorated with white-painted pearl tongue and groove paneling.

The kitchen and dining room are located next to each other. The dining room has a large bay window and white tongue-and-groove paneling topped with the Cole and Son “Nottambule” wallpaper.

The kitchen is a blend of a summer house and a restaurant kitchen. Custom-built solid ash cabinets are paired with Carrara marble countertops, stainless steel modules, and open shelves. The floral curtain hides a large pantry.

The home office on the ground floor is decorated with the “Frutto Proibito” wallpaper by Cole and Son.

The garden is a green oasis with lush garden rooms, winding paths, and stately century-old trees that provide character and shade during hot summer days. There is a harmonious mix of perennials, fruit trees, berry bushes, and trellises that create a lush and vibrant environment all year round.
