A Beautiful Mid-Century House in London
Today, we’re going back to the mid-20th century by touring a four-bedroom house in The Heights, a leafy, Span-inspired estate designed by Raglan Squire in the early 1960s. What’s great about this house is that you can see the original structure, which has a large light well connecting the upstairs bedrooms with the open-plan downstairs living spaces.
These terraced houses are laid around communal gardens. From this house, you have views of greenery from all windows, including the private rear garden with access to a communal lawn. The interiors are a mixture of modern, mid-century, and even antique furnishings.
Thanks to the light well and the skylight above, the house is wonderfully light, and it gives a spacious atmosphere. The house has a split-level living and dining room, which means that you also have beautiful views of the garden from the dining table.
The sitting room is in the back, with floor-to-ceiling glazed doors connecting the room to the green garden. The walls in this room are painted in a muted yellow shade.
On the opposite side, a reading nook is created with corner bookcases and walls painted in a deep green shade.
Making use of every nook, the space under the original sapele staircase is a smart home office.
The separate kitchen lies at the front of the plan, featuring wooden cabinets with stained oak countertops and green tiles.
On the first floor are four bedrooms. In one room, the closet is turned into a home office with open cabinets.
The master bedroom lies at the back of the plan, overlooking the garden. This room is painted in a deep blue shade which is paired with an antique bedframe and floral a artwork and curtains.
The garden is designed by the current garden designer owner with a wide variety of evergreen, flowering plants and bulbs to maximize color and ornamentation throughout the seasons.
The house is listed for £800,000 at The Modern House.
