A deVOL Refectory Red Laundry and Dining Room
Gone are the days when utility rooms were only functional but looked rather dull. In the last couple of years I’ve seen people take great care in designing these spaces to make them functional and beautiful at the same time. Today, I want to shade a lovely laundry room designed by deVOL Kitchens to give you plenty of inspiration for a pretty laundry or utility space.
Of course, not everyone has the financial ability to design a new laundry room, but this deVOL space also shows you the impact of color as they painted the cabinet in their warm ‘Refectory Red’ shade. A lick of paint can do wonders to an otherwise forgotten room.

At deVOL, they get their inspiration from the past. The Shaker-style cabinets, tongue-and-groove backboards, and open shelving in this laundry room are inspired by traditional utility rooms. The simple square quarry tiles from deVOL’s sister company, Floors of Stone, finish the traditional look.
On the ceiling hangs deVOL’s Laundry Maid. This simple take on a traditional Sheila Maid was designed by Paul O’Leary, the founder of deVOL, around 30 years ago.
To make this room a place where you actually want to spend time, they added fabrics with a square pattern and vintage crockery in pink tones.
From the ceiling hangs deVOL’s Narrow Pleat Porcelain Light.
Floor-to-ceiling cabinets were added to hide appliances.
In the same house, the owners chose one of deVOL’s Millhouse Refectory Tables for their dining room. They painted the table the same Refectory Red as the laundry room cabinets.
A built-in wooden bench is fitted under the window to maximize seating space around this large dining table.
The owners chose textiles with a square pattern in the laundry space and red stripes in the dining room. The Red and Beige Tent Stripe Tiffany Ruffle Lampshade from Beauvamp hangs from the ceiling.
