A Swedish Maisonette Apartment with Basement Bedrooms
On the lowest two floors of an apartment complex built in 1925, you can find this charming maisonette apartment with two bedrooms on the basement floor. With windows on multiple sides and angled walls, the rooms are light and airy.
The charm from the 1920s is still there, and original details such as wooden floor boards, moldings, and window seats have been preserved. These historical elements are paired with contemporary furnishings and a renovated kitchen in a traditional style.
The apartment is divided over two floors with a total floor plan of 88 square meters. On the upper floor, you will find the living room, kitchen, and dining room.
The living room is small, but with a generous window and light color palette, the room feels airy and nice to spend time in. There is plenty of room for a comfortable sofa, and black-painted shelves on the opposite wall add storage space.
There are no internal doors on this floor, so even though it is modest in size, it feels more spacious thanks to its open layout.
From the living room, you move into the open-plan kitchen and dining room. The kitchen was refreshed with new fronts in 2023. The sage green cabinets with white porcelain knobs from Byggfabriken are paired with an oak countertop.
The open layout between the kitchen and dining room makes this apartment perfect for dinner parties. The dining room is a nice space with light gray walls, a wooden floor, and a large rustic wooden dining table surrounded by wooden chairs with black leather seats.
The upper floor also features a tiny bathroom with classic white wall tiles, a checkerboard floor tile, and a light blue vanity.
The spiral steel staircase in the living room gives access to the basement floor with its two bedrooms. Both rooms feature built-in wardrobes with sliding doors that don’t take up too much space.
The rooms are pretty dark as they only have tiny windows, so the color scheme is kept light and natural with white-painted walls and light beige bedding.
The second basement bedroom is lighter as it has two windows. The room is used as a shared children’s bedroom with a large beige rug in the center that works well as a play area.
The hall is small but practical. The floor is covered with red granite ceramic hexagon tiles from Byggfrabriken, and the walls are covered with the wallpaper “VĂ„rklockor” from Svenskt Tenn.
