A Beige Color Palette and Built-in Bookshelves in a 1920s Apartment
This one-bedroom apartment lies on the fourth floor of a 1920s building in Gothenburg. The apartment was recently renovated, blending period features with new elements like a built-in bookcase and a new kitchen.
Period features like ceiling moldings, ceiling rosettes, skirting boards, wardrobes, and interior doors have been preserved and, together with the herringbone parquet floor and beige color scheme, give the home a peaceful and classic look.

The apartment has an open-plan living space with a herringbone parquet floor which was sanded and oiled during the recent kitchen renovation.

One wall has been fitted with built-in bookshelves that also hold space for a television and closed cabinets for storage.

The walls are painted in an earthy beige shade called “Pine Nut” by Jotun.

Two large windows flood the living space with natural light, and thanks to the apartment’s high location, you have an open view of the sky.

The kitchen was renovated a couple of years ago. The color scheme and the herringbone floor creates a harmonious look with the living room.

The kitchen is made of IKEA cabinets paired with a stone composite countertop and open shelves.

The calm color scheme continues into the bedroom, where the walls are painted in Jotun’s “Cashew” color. One wall has been left bare to the brick, giving the room an industrial element.

Floor-to-ceiling glass doors open to the wonderful balcony.

Thanks to the apartment’s high location, the balcony is a real treat, with views of the courtyard and the treetops.

The room features the original built-in wardrobes, which have been extended with an open wardrobe space with hanging rods.

The apartment has a large hallway with a fireplace. The walls are painted in Jotun’s Pine Nut.
