A Bohemian-Style House on the Estate of a Swedish Castle
Engsholm Castle is situated in a rolling, lakeside cultural landscape in northern Mörkö, Sweden. The estate dates back to the 14th century, with the current castle and its surrounding buildings constructed between 1915 and 1916.
Among these is the gardener’s residence, a bright, whitewashed house originally home to the castle’s gardener. Today, the residence is a stunning private home set on an expansive plot of nearly 4,000 square meters and featuring a magnificent orangery.
The setting evokes the charm of southern regions like Tuscany or Provence. In recent years, both the house and the orangery have undergone extensive, meticulous renovations using only traditional materials, preserving their historical integrity and timeless appeal.

The living room is a large space that used to be two separate rooms. Four deep windows in a row flood the room with lovely natural light. In the center stands a beautiful fireplace from Rörstrand.

The light walls and wooden floorboards are paired with textiles in different patterns and colors, creating a warm ambiance.

The dining room is in line with the kitchen and the rooms are connected by a large opening. The room has windows in two directions and is decorated with plants and art.

From the dining room we move into the kitchen where limewash walls are paired with tongue-and-groove paneling in a dark blue shade. The kitchen has its own dining area, with built-in benches decorated with colorful textiles and a large wooden table.

The site-built kitchen paired dark blue cabinets with marble and oak worktops, classic white tiles, and brass fittings.

On the first floor are four bedroom with gray-painted floorboards and a boho-style interior.

The bedrooms offer gorgeous views of the surrounding landscape.

The bathroom pairs lime pllster with white tiles and marble hexagon floor tiles.

The top floor is home to two more rooms, with slanted ceilings and exposed wooden beams. These rooms are warm thanks to the boarded walls. The rooms are decorated as a second sitting room and an additional bedroom.

Next to the main house lies the orangery featuring a walled garden area with a southern vibe. It has a large pergola and space for various seating furniture.

The magnificent orangery stands next to the residential building, with its beautiful facade that fronts a temple gable with four columns and barred French windows with arched tops.

The property has a 3858 m2 garden space with grass areas and fruit trees. There are apple trees of various varieties, cherry trees and pear trees, as well as currant bushes, raspberries, gooseberries, rhubarb, strawberries, herbs and a greenhouse
