Bold Colors in a Charming Historic House in England
In the Cranbrook Conservation Area in Kent stands a lovely four-bedroom family home that is decorated with bold colors. The house was initially built in the Georgian period, but during the Victorian times, it was extended in a typical Victorian style.
The interiors of the white clapboard-clad house have recently undergone a renovation and all rooms are now decorated in bold colors paired with carefully selected materials that conserve the authenticity of the historic house.
This house is a dream for everyone who loves to decorate with color, from red walls and ceilings in the living room to green bookcases and a red fireplace. This house shows you don’t have to shy away from bold colors in your interior.
At the front of the house, you can find a living room with walls and ceiling painted in a bold red shade. The red walls (‘Bronze Red’ by Little Greene) are paired with custom bookcases that are painted in ‘Olive Colour’ by Little Greene.
In this room, you can see the blend of Georgian and Victorian architecture styles as the bay with two pitch pine sash windows is a Victorian addition.
A gas stove sits within an original red Rance marble surround.
On the other side of the room, green bookshelves and cabinets are fitted with aged brass deVOL furniture and crowned with dentil cornicing, which are a nod to the 19th-century origins of the house.
Via the hallway, you enter an open-plan sitting room, kitchen, and dining area. The sitting room sits at the front, with double doors opening up to the courtyard garden.
The sitting room is decorated in green and pink colors, which is a perfect color combination.
Behind the sitting room, you can find the kitchen. The bespoke kitchen cabinets are painted in ‘Bancha’ by Farrow & Ball and finished with bullseye roundels to mirror original Georgian details.
The worktops are made of Carrara marble-style quartz, which is paired with a fluted butler sink under the window and glossy light pink tiles.
Through the kitchen, you enter the dining area, which is painted in a lovely dark green shade. The table is set in front of a cast iron fireplace with a red surround. On either side of the fireplace, you can find the original pitch pine built-in cupboards and drawers.
An island with a solid oak top provides extra dining space.
