A Charming 1920s Apartment in Gothenburg
In a popular neighborhood in Sweden’s second city, Gothenburg, lies this renovated apartment where period elements from the 1920s are paired with a new kitchen and bathroom in period style.
The 60 square meters features many preserved original details, including beautiful single-pane windows with cultural glass. Originally, the apartment had one large bedroom, which has now been divided into two, including an inner hall with pink bookshelves.

The living room is a calm space with large windows facing the apartment building’s quiet front garden. High corner bookshelves keep the room airy and free of large bulky furniture, while still adding storage.

The room is decorated in a midcentury style with a blue sofa and a charming green armchair.

The walls are painted in the color “Tudor” from Jotun, a soft gray hue that pairs beautifully with the wooden floorboards.

From the living room, you move into the kitchen featuring chest paneling, wooden floorboards, and green kitchen cabinets. The walls are painted in the color “Kalk” from Jotun.

The kitchen was added to the apartment in 2021, featuring gray-green cabinet doors and oak interiors. The cabinets are topped with a quartz composite countertop from Silestone.

By the window, there is space for a large dining table. The rustic wooden folding table adds character to the space. By adding a built-in corner bench, you could create more seating space, while also freeing up some floor space leading to the built-in pantry.

The inner hall leading to the apartment’s two bedrooms is decorated in the “Nora” wallpaper from Boråstapeter paired with a built-in bookcase painted in “Bauhaus Red” from Auro.

The master bedroom is a light and airy space with walls painted in the color “Tudor” from Jotun and white-painted chest paneling.

The room features two preserved original wardrobes flanking the bed.

The smaller bedroom is a charming children’s room with white-painted chest paneling and walls painted in the color “Fog Green” from Auro.

The renovated bathroom is designed in a classic 1920s style featuring green and beige checkerboard floor tiles from Byggfabriken, the Burlington sink (also from Byggfabriken), and classic white wall tiles.

The walls in the hall are wallpapered with the “Fruit” pattern from William Morris paired with marble floor tiles.
