Color Accents in a Renovated Midcentury Apartment in Stockholm
This bright and well-planned apartment lies on the top floor of a 1940s apartment building in Stockholm. The two-bedroom apartment was carefully renovated, pairing original features with contemporary elements, creating a cozy and inviting home.
The entire apartment features a solid oak floor from Ängavången, made of Swedish oak, mainly from Skåne, Blekinge, and southern Småland, that has been oiled for a beautiful, vibrant surface. Original elements like the windows, fireplace, and cabinets have been preserved, adding a nice midcentury touch to the apartment.

The living room is the cozy heart of the home. It has a large window and a balcony door, so the living space can be extended outdoors in the summer months.
The centerpiece of the living room is this magnificent original brick fireplace, creating a warm atmosphere in the room when lit. A little niche next to the fireplace is perfect for storing firewood, which is practical and also a nice decorative element.
A cozy sitting area is placed next to the fireplace by the large window. A large green rug ties the space together and is topped with a blue sofa. The blue returns in the floating bookshelf, which is a nice element.
The entire room is decorated in red, blue, and green shades, creating nice natural color pops in the room with white walls.
The room is big enough for a comfortable seating area as well as a dining table with red chairs.
The kitchen was renovated in 2024 in a style that matches the 1940s architecture of the apartment. The kitchen is made from IKEA frames paired with soft green doors, a wooden and custom-made stainless steel worktop, and terrazzo tiles from Herrljunga.
The kitchen is small, but the owners added storage elements in all kinds of spaces. There is a high shelf with a hanging rod on one wall, a wooden shelf construction on the countertop, and open wooden shelving next to the fridge.
The large window can be fully opened and with the view of the treetops adds a wonderful sense of space.
The smallest bedroom is now used as the master bedroom. The walls are painted in Farrow & Ball’s “Bancha”, mimicking the green hues you see out the window.
The largest bedroom is now a home office painted in Old Rose by Alcro.
The hall is fitted with the original 1940s built-in cabinets. The bathroom was renovated in 2024, using green Italian marble floor tiles and simple white wall tiles.
