Color, Books, and a Walk-In Wardrobe in a Small Stockholm Apartment
On the raised ground floor of a 19th-century building in the Södermalm area in Stockholm lies this charming one-bedroom apartment filled with books, color, and historical features.
The apartment has a floor area of only 51 square meters. Still, it features a good layout, including a spacious kitchen that opens onto a large outdoor terrace, a charming living room filled with bookshelves, and a small bedroom with a walk-in closet.

The kitchen is the first image I saw of this home, and the sunny, half-painted yellow walls immediately caught my eye.

The kitchen was refreshed three years ago with new custom-made gray mirror doors and drawers with classic bowl handles from Sekelskifte. The cabinets are topped with a linseed oil-treated oak countertop and white backsplash tiles that add a bistro vibe to the space.

On the other side, there is room for a generous dining table. The current owners added a round Magnus Olesen table, but with a bench fitted against the walls and a rectangular table, you can seat even more people.

Glass doors open to a spacious outdoor terrace, extending the living area in the warmer months.

In the corner of the kitchen, the owners added a serving cabinet in a traditional style.

The walls are painted in Auro’s “Bauhaus No. 446” color, while the moldings, cabinet doors, wall-mounted shelves, and serving cabinet are painted gray.

The living room is a cozy space with a large window. One wall is fitted with a wall-mounted Carl Larrson red bookcase.

Curtains are made from the classic Josef Frank “Hawai” pattern.

The room features a classic Dutch-style parquet floor, and the woodwork is painted gray, just as in the kitchen.

The Dutch parquet floor continues into the apartment’s only bedroom. The small room is just big enough for a double bed and narrow bedside tables.

The walls are painted in Auro’s calming gray-green color “Bauhaus 435”, while the joinery is painted in the same gray hue as in the rest of the apartment.

Unique for such a small apartment, the bedroom gives access to a walk-in wardrobe fitted with wardrobe furniture featuring hanging rods, drawers, and closed cabinets.

The walls in the hall are painted in Auro’s rose-red color “Bauhaus 319”, paired with a Dutch parquet floor and a large jute rug.

The tiny bathroom is simple with black and white tiles that are paired with a popping red-framed mirror.

The apartment is listed for sale at Historiska Hem.
