A Cozy Historic English Country House with Exposed Beams
Amidst the rolling hills of East Sussex in England, you can find a beautiful historic country house with exposed wooden beams and cozy rooms. The five-bedroom house is a blend of medieval and Georgian architecture. The oldest part of the house dates back to the 15th century, and in the 18th century, new wings were added to the medieval home.
The English country house was extensively renovated in the last couple of years using refined materials and color palettes that work seamlessly with the historic base of the building.
The old house is located on two acres of lush gardens with a tennis court, a swimming pool, and a detached three-bedroom cottage. From the gardens and the house, you have a beautiful view of the Sussex landscape surrounding the house.
The bright kitchen is located in one of the Georgian wings of the house. Thanks to the double-aspect, eight-over-eight sash windows on either side, the room is flooded with natural light.
The kitchen is designed by deVOL Kitchens and has tulipwood cabinets painted in ‘De Nimes’ by Farrow & Ball. The cabinets are topped with quartz worktops and a double butler sink.
The yellow shade on the walls combined with the richly toned original oak floorboards add give the room a warm atmosphere.
The large sitting room is divided into two parts, with a large brick inglenook fireplace in the center. The living room has exposed weathered timber beams and studs that are paired with walls painted in ‘Jitney’ by Farrow & Ball.Â
A second seating area with a brick-laid floor is centered around a wood-burning stove with decorative tiles from the Baked Tile Co.
The sunroom has leaded casement windows and a pair of French doors that open up to the sunken terrace in the garden.
On the first floor of the country house are five bedrooms. The master bedroom is a light room with windows on three sides and a large walk-in closet.
One of the bedrooms that is located in the medieval part of the house has beautiful exposed wooden beams and walls painted in a subtle pink shade.
The family bathroom is a large space with a freestanding tub in front of the window, old wooden floorboards, and exposed wooden beams paired with dark blue walls.
