A Dining Room with a Painted Ceiling in an Early 19th Century Apartment
On the second floor of a beautiful manor house-style apartment building in Gothenburg lies this magnificent family apartment with an open-plan kitchen and dining room, a decorative painted ceiling, and preserved period elements.
The building was built in 1802 and preserved period character, such as high windows with skylights through cultural glass, cast iron elements, and beautiful mirrored doors, giving this home a special atmosphere.
Despite living in the city, the views from the large windows are open and filled with greenery. The building also features a large communal garden with lush patios, vegetable gardens, and a tennis court.
The semi-open-plan kitchen and dining room is the social heart of the home, with plenty of space for a large dining table and a sofa. Two large windows flood the room with light and offer views of the building’s own park-like garden.
The long wall is fitted with custom, built-in bookshelves and cabinets, fully using the generous ceiling height to maximize storage space.
The ceiling has been beautifully decorated with nature scenes, adding a unique touch to the dining room.
The walls in the dining room are painted in Jotun’s “Silhouette”, a beautiful light green hue, which is paired with Jotun’s sand color “Devine” on the ceiling.
A wide doorway connects the dining room and the kitchen.
The kitchen is a beautiful space with two high, barred windows that have been carefully renovated over the years. In the corner by the window, there is room for a small kitchen table, perfect for breakfast or a cup of tea in the afternoon while looking out over the greenery.
The kitchen is classic and warm with brown walls, a copper countertop atop classic gray cabinets, and shelves instead of upper cabinets showcasing the finest crockery and decor.
One wall is fitted with floor-to-ceiling cabinets, including a charming coffee corner.
The dining room and kitchen are the social heart of the home, while the living room is a more private affair. The room can be accessed via the kitchen or one of the bedrooms, and it a cozy room with earthy-colored walls, art, and a corner sofa from IKEA.
The walls in the living room are painted in Jotun’s “Golden Bronze.”
The doorframe leading to a small passageway with built-in cabinets is painted in Anne Sloan’s Chalk Paint “Duck Egg Blue”.
The master bedroom is a grand space with windows in two directions. The walls are painted in the color “Soft”, and the built-in wardrobes in “Granskugga”, both shades from Jotun.
The second bedroom lies between the master bedroom and the living room. This part of the apartment features lovely spruce wooden floorboards.
A custom-built wardrobe and desk frame the old brass hatch door, which is a perfect use of space.
The walls in this bedroom are painted in the gray-blue color “Lövsal” by Jotun.
The hall is fitted with built-in wardrobes and is painted in a warm ochre yellow hue.
The bathroom is simple and stylish with a microcement floor and classic white tiles.
