Gray Tones and High Ceilings in a Cozy Swedish Duplex Apartment
The top two floors of a 1930s building in Sweden’s second city, Gothenburg, are home to a fantastic duplex apartment with four-meter-high ceilings in the living room and a gray and white color scheme.
The 83-square-meter apartment features a kitchen and a dining room on the lower floor, while the living room and two bedrooms are located on the top floor, with slanted ceilings and charming dormer windows. There are bathrooms on both floors, and the living room also opens up to a charming roof terrace.

The living room is a cozy space with a ceiling height of up to four meters. The room features a newly laid spruce floor and the exposed brick wall has been painted in a dark gray shade, standing out nicely against the other white walls.

A cozy gray corner sofa packed with cushions is fitted under the dormer window, creating a small but charming seating area.

On the other side, glass sliding doors lead you to the rooftop terrace overlooking the communal courtyard.

The terrace is tucked between walls, so it is wonderfully private and sheltered.

The new spruce plank floor extends into the master bedroom, where it is paired with a gray wallpaper featuring a linen texture, called “Dim Linen” from Boråstapeter.

The room features a charming crescent window next to the bed.

White wardrobes from IKEA offer ample storage, while the high-pitched ceiling with exposed wooden beams adds character.

The smaller bedroom is decorated in a white and green color scheme. The wall under the slanted ceiling is fitted with built-in bookshelves.

The space under the slanted ceiling is used for storage, hidden by a beige-pink curtain.

The bathroom on the floor features white tiles and cabinets. The floor is covered with a Moroccan-style tile.

Moving to the lower floor, where there are two rooms. The largest room is now a dining room/additional sitting room with white-oiled floorboards and walls painted in “Mossa” from Beckers.

A velvet green sofa is placed under the staircase, turning this space into a multifunctional family room that I can imagine is the heart of the home during the day.

On the other side of the hall lies the kitchen, featuring solid wood white cabinets paired with leather handles, a granite countertop, and white metro tiles with dark grout.

On the other side is a separate workbench/bar seating with a stainless steel top.

The walls are painted in “Lovika Gray” from Beckers. The real estate agency also added an additional floor plan, turning the kitchen space into a third bedroom and the dining room into the kitchen.

The hall features site-built storage for coats, shoes, and other items. The walls are painted in “Pale Sand” from Jotun.

The apartment building features a cozy shared garden with a vegetable garden, a barbecue, and lounge furniture.
