Historic Character and a deVOL Kitchen in a Swedish Country House
Time goes fast. It seems only yesterday that Nora and Laura of Our Food Stories put their renovated country home in Sweden up for sale, but it’s already been four years. Now, the 207-square-meter home has been put on the market for a second time.
The 19th-century home is situated on a hill in the historic village of Södra Mellby in Southern Sweden, offering panoramic views over the hilly landscape, past the neighborhood’s orchards, and out to the sea shimmering in the distance.Â
Nora and Laura of Our Food Stories ensured that the historic character of the country house was preserved, and it is good to see that the new owners kept these historical elements.

The house features a large, open-plan living space, complete with a beautiful deVOL kitchen on one side and a sitting room on the other. In between, there is space for a large rustic dining table.

The rustic table is the heart of the home and the central gathering space. It perfectly connects the kitchen with the sitting room.

The kitchen is one you have seen before if you have been reading The Nordroom regularly over the years.

The kitchen is a design by my favorite British company, deVOL Kitchens, featuring their Haberdasher cabinets topped with a Portuguese Estremoz Marble countertop and a Carrara marble sink.

Glass doors open to a newly laid wooden terrace with beautiful views of the countryside.

The kitchen pairs old with new, while also appearing to have always been part of this historic house. The kitchen island features an aged copper countertop made by deVOL.

An old-fashioned AGA stove stands in the corner of the kitchen.

On the other side of the open-plan living space is a charming sitting corner with beige walls and a wooden ceiling.

The house has five bedrooms, one is located on the ground floor and features windows in two directions and a warm wooden floor.

There are two bathrooms on the ground floor. The largest one hasn’t been renovated and features blue tilework. The smallest bathroom is new and pairs classic white tiles with brass fittings.

The master bedroom features dark wooden floorboards and a private balcony.

Like many Scandinavian homes, there is an open space on the first floor that is often used as a second sitting room or a home office.

The house features a charming garden with peonies, lilacs, and schersmin that bloom in the Spring.

Old-fashioned roses and hydrangeas grow next to the house in soft shades and a lavender-scented stone wall welcomes you at the entrance.

The house is listed for sale at Residence by Christie. If you want to see how this home looked a couple of years ago when Our Food Stories sold it, you can click here. In that article, you will also find a link to an article with more information about the kitchen.
