IKEA PS is Back! Here Are the First 3 Products from the 2026 Collection

31 years after the first IKEA PS collection was announced during Milan Design Week, the collection returns. Today, the first three products of the tenth IKEA PS edition have been presented during Milan Design Week 2026.

These three new products, an inflatable armchair that took decades to develop, a wooden rocking bench, and a floor lamp that can be turned in three directions, are part of a larger collection that will be released in May.

Since 1995, the IKEA PS collection is where you can find IKEA’s most experimental designs. Over the years, the future of Scandinavian design has been explored, and some of IKEA’s most beloved and timeless products have come from this collection.

In 2026, IKEA launches the tenth edition of the PS line, focusing on playful functionality: useful, functional products that fulfill their purpose in the home while also offering unexpected playfulness you can’t help but engage with.

“PS is about embracing simplicity and finding joy in it. The collection consists of 36 products, each with a clear function, highlighted by expressive details with a playful touch,” says Maria O’Brian, creative leader at IKEA Sweden.

Ahead of the global launch of the PS collection on May 13, three products are shown during Milan Design Week: an air-filled armchair and a rocking bench by IKEA designers Mikael Axelsson and Marta Krupińska, and a lamp that can be turned in three directions by Rotterdam-based designer Lex Pott.

The IKEA PS Air-Filled Armchair

After decades of trying to crack the code for designing air-filled furniture, the inflatable armchair has finally found its place at IKEA with the PS 2026 model.

When Mikael Axelsson decided to give it another try, he was driven by the question of whether air as a material could provide the same comfort as foam.

He welded 20 prototypes and tried everything, including a tractor tire, before arriving at a solution with two separate, adjustable air chambers enclosed in a tubular chrome frame, which gave the armchair stability and a compact silhouette.

The armchair comes flat-packed, complete with emerald green fabric and a foot pump, and has passed all the durability tests that IKEA carries out on its armchairs, resulting in a level of comfort you wouldn’t expect from something filled with air.

The IKEA PS Versatile Floor Lamp by Lex Pott

Dutch designer Lex Pott wondered what would happen if you cut a steel cylinder at a 45-degree angle and started rotating the pieces.

Two angled cutting points transformed a floor lamp into something more versatile. If the lamp is rotated in one direction, it becomes a spotlight. If it is rotated in another direction, it becomes a reading lamp. If it is rotated in a third direction, it creates an upward light, where each angle creates a unique mood in the room.

The functions lie entirely in the geometry, and the playful rotation creates a new object each time. The patented design features a trumpet-shaped shade and a narrow metal stem rising from a wide cone-shaped lamp base, available in yellow-green, burgundy, and cobalt blue.

“When you turn the lamp, not only does the light change, but also the atmosphere of the room. We have stripped the design down to its purest form, and the function is not revealed at first glance, but that is precisely where the joy and playfulness lie.

There are layers that gradually reveal themselves and an emotional connection that grows the longer you live with it,” says Lex Pott.

The IKEA PS Rocking Bench

The rocking bench is playful functionality at its purest. It does exactly what you would expect: it gently rocks you from side to side, but also functions perfectly as a bench.

Made of solid pine with all its natural character preserved, the sturdy rocking legs can withstand the stress and strain of repeated use.

“I noticed from the very first prototype that people couldn’t help but swing on it. They sat down, started swinging, and then called someone else to try. Furniture shouldn’t take itself too seriously.

That instinctive, spontaneous impulse to just play is something we rarely express as adults, but it’s so important to have objects that bring out that side of us,” says designer Marta Krupińska.

The IKEA PS 2026 collection will be presented fully on May 13th, and it will go on sale a day later. The full collection will be released on The Nordroom as soon as it’s available.
