IKEA PS 2026: 44 Products with Playful Functionality (Full Collection)

Today, IKEA has launched the tenth edition of IKEA PS, an innovative design collection aimed at pushing the boundaries of Scandinavian design and making it more accessible to more people.

We already shared a sneak peek of the collection, but the complete IKEA PS 2026 collection comprises 44 products, where everyday functionality meets unexpected touches of playfulness.

This collection revolves around playful functionality: smart furniture and accessories that make everyday life just a little more fun. Everything is in motion, from rolling and rocking to bending and transforming. The products fit anywhere, but are specially designed to shine in smaller spaces.

Since its launch in 1995, IKEA PS has been a collection where Democratic Design comes into its own, showing itself at its most dynamic.

In this edition of IKEA PS, twelve designers were given free rein to explore playful functionality and interpret Scandinavian design in their own way, with a common challenge: to create products that are simple but never boring, with character and functionality.

The IKEA PS 2026 Products

Each product in the collection carries a story. They are fun and new, but always integrated with function. It is designed to appeal to our inherent human curiosity and instinct to interact.

The details are a bit mischievous and designed to be discovered rather than admired from a distance, like a secret drawer under a table that pulls out from both ends, turning a dinner into a game night.

Some features are immediately obvious, like the rocking bench that gently moves you as soon as you sit down.

Other features only reveal themselves when you touch or try something: a chair with a simple shape that invites you to sit upright, on its side, or hanging over it; or a sofa that functions like a bed without looking like one.

Let’s take a close look at the IKEA PS 2026 products.

A Cabinet with Wavy-Shaped Doors

This cabinet with doors is designed by Frido Wiersma. He wanted to make a cabinet where the human hand and craftsmanship could not be missed.

Inspired by the bending wood methods he learned as a boat builder, Friso developed the technique used to hand-weave these cabinet doors. The solid pine is untreated, so it will age in a natural and unique way.

“You can see the hand movement in the weave. It is a tribute to the skilled woodworkers in our factories, by making it the central element of the design.”

A Table that Adds Color

Designed by Ola Wihlborg, this table’s green hue rich green hue adds color to any space. And, while it’s perfect for eating, it can also be used in other ways to make the most of every square meter. “Round tables are a good choice in small spaces,” says Ola.

A Chair that Turns

Inspired by his own hectic family life, designer Henrik Preutz wanted to create a chair that could handle the pressure of real kitchens. His sketches started with simple circles and squares, until he ended up with this versatile design.

It makes the most of any space by offering different comfortable seating options. “Despite 20 years of design work, I am surprised that a few circles and squares can be transformed into a chair with its own character,” says Henrik.

IKEA-PS-2026-mirror-nordroom

A Mirror that Moves

Talk about luck in the face of misfortune. When designer Ellen Hallström visited the supplier to see the first prototype of her wooden mirror, she discovered a miscommunication; the supplier had made it in metal instead.

And Ellen loved it. So now, the PS collection features an asymmetrical mirror with a metal frame, providing a stylish look and everyday functionality. Its flexible design makes it easy to move from wall to table, to make the most of both large and small spaces.

A Lampshade that Glows

Designer Lukas Bazle loves the style (and light) of large rice paper lamps, but not the fact that they only really fit in airy rooms with high ceilings (where most of us don’t live).

IKEA-PS-2026-ceiling-lamp-nordroom

So, he did what he does best and started working with his hands. He cut, cut, and glued paper shades, experimented, until he got a dome shape by splitting a globe and putting the parts back together.

The result? A lampshade that gives both a glowing glow and a more focused downwards light. It’s a paper shade that makes an impression, sized for real life in the home.

IKEA-PS-2026-bookcase-nordroom

Shelves that Collect

Designer Frido Wiersma loves natural wood (as we saw in the earlier cabinet). He uses his passion and respect for craftsmanship in his work as a cabinetmaker.

With this product, he remade a bookcase from IKEA’s 80s range entirely from solid, untreated pine. He painted the shelf edges red, not just as a splash of color, but as a nod to the traditional way of drying carpentry wood.

IKEA-PS-2026-vase-nordroom

Vases that Hear

Some look happy, others a bit sad. Each vase seems to have a personality all its own. Designer Maria Vinka worked with a Swedish glassblower to create these fun, unique characters in three sizes.

Each vase in colored glass is mouth-blown by skilled glassblowers. They therefore all have a completely unique expression.

“I am fascinated by characters, which you can see with the ears on the vases, which give the design a unique personality. It is impossible not to smile at them,” says designer Maria Vinka.

A Table that Folds

This is no ordinary folding table. “It is designed to be so solid and reliable that the fact that it can be folded is the last thing you would expect,” says designer Ola Wihlborg.

Stable enough for everyday life but foldable for times when you need more space. The legs of the table for four can be folded under the table top with a few turns of the red wing screws.

The tabletop itself is a pine layer construction reinforced with a grid to increase strength while reducing the material.

A Table that Clicks

This folding side table is easy to click into place when you need it and folds up when you don’t. And while it’s simple to use, it was anything but easy to create.

The unconventional design, where the briefcase-inspired handle works the same whether the table is folded or open, required a unique locking mechanism that would defy gravity and provide stability.

IKEA-PS-2026-side-table-nordroom

Designer David Wahl says he lost count of how many prototypes they went through and of the millimeter-precise adjustments. “The laws of physics don’t apply to this table. We spent more than a year getting the locking mechanism perfect so that the handle would work the way we wanted.”

A Sofa that Sleeps

Not every piece of furniture is what it seems. At first glance, this one looks like a solid pine sofa. And it is. But sit down, and you might be surprised by how comfortable it is.

IKEA-PS-2026-sofa-detail-nordroom

It is built with the same foam and supportive pocket springs as a mattress, because it is a sofa bed. “We focused primarily on the sleeping experience, making it as real a bed as a sofa can ever be,” says designer Ola Wihlborg.

IKEA-PS-2026-bedside-table-nordroom

A Bedside Table that Flutters

It may come as no surprise that designer Ola Wihlborg got the idea for this bedside table while he was out in the garden.

The birdhouse-inspired bedside table in solid pine hides a practical storage space and cable management behind a playful folding door. Ola chose the material for its long-lasting quality: “It won’t get ruined by a mark, it just gets better with age.”

A Bed Chair

Designed for small spaces, this retro-style chair can be transformed from an upright seat to a comfortable armchair to a full-length bed.

IKEA-PS-2026-chair-bed-nordroom

It is designer Matilda Lindstam’s version of a similar chair that was under her bunk bed as a child. This version has pocket springs that provide the same support as a bed mattress.

IKEA-PS-2026-hooks-nordroom

A Shelf that Snaps

This stylish Scandinavian version of a classic knob strip is designer Ellen Hallström’s answer to the question: “How can we increase floor space?”

That led to this hanger, with dimensions specifically designed to fit small spaces. Concealed fittings minimize visual impact, and the self-retracting metal hooks protrude when used and snap back when not.

The edges are cut perfectly straight, so you can easily place several hangers side by side.

A Cabinet That Shows Off

The mesh doors with solid-glass dust protection are a smart design feature that shows this cabinet is more than just a beautiful piece of furniture.

It is actually full of thoughtful features, such as adjustable feet, a cable outlet (which makes it easier to install built-in lighting), cutouts in the handles (so it’s easy to lock), and adjustable glass shelves.

A Table That Keeps a Secret

This table can keep a secret. Designer Ola Wihlborg hid a useful feature in the solid pine construction, one that is very Scandinavian in its simplicity: a drawer that can be opened from both sides.

IKEA-PS-2026-table-with-drawer-nordroom

“When I lived really small, this was exactly the table I dreamed of, one that could be a dining table, a kitchen island, and a workplace. With a drawer and ample storage,” says designer Ola Wihlborg.

Decoration with Eyes

Want to keep an eye on the style? These figures can help you. Designer Lex Pott wanted to turn a two-dimensional material into a three-dimensional product to bring your walls to life.

They come in two different-colored 3-packs and as a larger stand-alone product, so you can mix and match as you like.

IKEA-PS-2026-stool-nordroom

A Stool that Climbs

The height-adjustable pine stool evokes an immediate, almost involuntary reaction to reach out and try the large ratcheted handle to see what happens.

The stool’s practical construction with ratchet teeth is inspired by simple carpentry tools and designer Mikael Axelsson’s view of home decor.

A Chair that Hangs

Solid birch is a table material for this multifunctional chair. It is designed as an artistic element in both large and small spaces.

The classic construction features lacquer and strong colors, a combination with an unusual advantage: when you hang the chair, it transforms into an eye-catching piece that could almost hang in an art museum.

IKEA-PS-2026-wooden-chair-nordroom

A Chair that Celebrates

It may look like a chair, but it is actually a love letter to plywood. It is a strong, durable, versatile material that makes efficient use of timber.

It also behaves like paper. So, when designer Ellen Hallström set out to design, she started by playing with paper. She explored how she could keep the design simple while at the same time creating something that was unique and full of character. The straight cuts and inviting curves work together to highlight the beauty of plywood.

Storage on Wheels

Designer Lex Pott was curious about how the rolling cart’s shape, which resembles a wedding cake, would work in the home.

“Rectangular things then to end up in a corner, a round object has no direction. It makes sense to make a mobile product like this round, so it can go anywhere.”

The matching wheels were a particularly important aesthetic detail that Lex was happy to include in the final product. He calls the rolling cart “a little company on wheels,” adding that it’s perfect for the things you usually put in different places.

Textiles that Bloom

Dreamy, organic, abstract, and colorful. Designer Micheel Armas’ patterns are many things, but definitely not boring.

She uses a special ink technique to capture the feeling of joy and connection; the things she says make life worth living.

The patterns on the textiles in the IKEA PS 2026 collection are inspired by her plans to visit Sweden. She says that each shape represents a soul: “The flowing ink is the souls communicating. It is my way of showing the beauty of coexistence.”

IKEA-PS-2026-lamp-nordroom

A Portable Lamp

Designer Lex Pott was inspired by geometric shapes and used glass and metal to give the lamp a robust, quality feel. The lamp is available in three color variants, is portable, rechargeable, dimmable, and ready to shine wherever you put it.

IKEA-PS-2026-storage-pouf-nordroom

Storage that Hides

It is no wonder that this playfully curved piece of furniture can do more than one thing in the home. Designer Marta Krupińska loves play, but is quick to explain: “Function is my top priority.”

IKEA-PS-2026-pouf-nordroom

That’s why you can also sit on this hand-woven footstool and hide all those little things you don’t want to show off in it.

IKEA-PS-2026-table-clock-nordroom

A Clock that Peeks

No, it’s not the sound of an underwater radar; it’s the ticking of a periscope-inspired clock. The simple, sculptural design gives this clock a big personality.

The inspiration comes from the street art in designer Marta Krupińska’s Polish hometown. The minimalistic dial seems to be constantly peeking at your home decor.

IKEA-PS-2026-rocking-bench-nordroom

A Bench that Rocks

Someone called designer Marta Krupińska an ambassador for playfulness, and that’s something she loves to embrace. The rocking bench was the first concept she came up with for the IKEA PS 2026 collection, and she decided to make it a reality.

ikea-ps-2026-adjustable-lamp-nordroom

A Lamp that Bends

“When something is only playful, it can feel a bit like a gimmick. And when it is only functional, it takes away the joy. But when you combine function with play, it becomes an interesting design,” says designer Lex Pott.

Creating products for the PS 2026 collection is Lex’s first work for IKEA, and he has made an impact with these bendable lamps.

ikea-ps-collection-air-filled-armchair-nordroom

An Inflatable Armchair

It has taken IKEA 30 years, but they have finally mastered the inflatable furniture. “IKEA is all about democratizing design, and in this way, air is the perfect material to work with,” says designer Mikael Axelsson. “It costs nothing, and everyone has access to it. Plus, it enables a minimal use of packaging and eaw materials in general.”

Mikael was attracted by all these advantages. He felt IKEA could improve on what had been done before: an armchair as comfortable as one made of traditional materials.

While air as a building material is a perfect concept in theory, it is a different matter in reality. “Air is not like foam at all, so you have to approach the design in a completely different way,” he explains. “We did this by making little changes until we reached a final version.”

The fabric cover eliminates squeaking and sliding, internal chambers give the inflatable cushions both shape and support, and the metal frame creates a stable structure. The result is an armchair as comfortable as a traditional one.

IKEA PS 2026 has been designed by Henrik Preutz, Mikael Axelsson, Matilda Lindstam Nilsson, Ellen Hallström, Lex Pott, Lukas Bazle, Maria Vinka, Ola Wihlborg, Michelle Armas, David Wahl, and Friso Wiersma.

The IKEA PS 2026 collection will be available in stores on May 14th or May 15th, depending on your country. Click here for the latest IKEA news. And let me know in the comments what your favorite product is!
