Limewash Paint and Artisan Wallpaper in a London Townhouse
On one of the finest streets in Islington’s Barnsbury Conservation Area in London stands a beautiful townhouse with limewash walls and unique artisan wallpapers. The London townhouse was recently renovated featuring historic and contemporary details, with bespoke cabinetry, exquisite decorative finishes, and striking original plasterwork.
The four bedroom townhouse is set over five light filled levels with a total floorplan of 2,500 sq ft and a private walled garden at the back. The townhouse is decorated in a beautiful blend of neutral tones paired with bold color accents in tilework, wallpaper, and pink woodwork in the living room.

The townhouse have two sitting rooms, on the ground floor and the first floor. I’m starting the home tour on the first floor with this colorful living room.
The sitting room is centered around a black fireplace with tiled slips while the original Georgian pine floorboards connect the front room with the study in the back.
I love the combination of historic elements and modern designs in this living room. The original shutters and woodwork is painted in a lovely pink shade which returns in the rug. The graphic sofas and art add a modern touch to the room.
The ground floor sitting room is decorated in a much calmer design than the room above. Here, a limed oak parquet floor connects the front room with the back.
This room also features a beautiful Regency chimneypiece.
The back room is a combined home office with a bar. The walls are papered in grass cloth from Phillip Jeffries.
The lower ground floor is home to a kitchen and dining room. The open-plan kitchen is a generous that’s almost 30 ft deep, with limed oak parquet flooring underfoot and custom-built cabinetry clad in a beautiful patinated verdigris finish.
The kitchen features thick-cast polished concrete worktops in an ivory color. The open shelves above the workspace are lighted with Rose Uniacke spotlights.
The entire second floor is home to a grand master bedroom en suite with limewash walls in a soft pink shade called ‘Marrakesh’ by Bauwerk. A partition wall divided the two areas which also features as the headboard.
A wall of bespoke floor-to-ceiling wardrobes runs almost the entire length of the floor. The doors are handpainted by decorative artist Tess Newall with bamboo and hummingbirds and have Joseph Giles handles
The en suite bathroom is a beautiful space, with walls encased in rose-hued waterproof Tadelakt, similar to the pink shade in the bedroom. A white resin bateau bathtub sits in front of the window.
The partition wall features wallpaper from Maison C.
There are two more bedrooms on the top floor with a Jack and Jill bathroom separating the rooms. The ceilings have been opened up to reveal the roof’s pitch which creates a sense of space.
The smallest room is decorated with the Boussac Radzimir wallpaper from Pierre Frey.
The large room at the front is now a nursery with wallpaper from Antoinette Poisson.
The Jack and Jill bathroom has tilework from Bert and May and the walls are papered in a classical illustration by Kate Hawkins for CommonRoom.
The walled garden was re-landscaped to create a charming seating area with curved wooden benches and a large dining area in the back.
The house is listed for £3,650,000 at Inigo and Neilson and Bauer.
