A London Home with an Oak-Framed Glazed Extension
Historic terrace houses in England are beautiful, but they often have small rooms that don’t work well in modern times. Therefore, you often see that these historic houses are extended to create a large kitchen and dining area attached to the garden.
Today, I want to share this Victorian house in London, which has also been enlarged with a beautiful oak-frame glazed extension. The extension houses a light and spacious kitchen and dining room, and this house is another example of a beautiful blend of modern and historic architecture.
I’m starting the tour in the historic part of the house where you will find a lovely color-drenched living room with a large bay window and stripped wooden floorboards.
The navy hue on the walls and ceiling create a cozy atmosphere in the room and it’s a color that works beautifully in a room with historic elements.
Oak steps lead you to the back of the home, where the house has been extended with a framework of natural oak and four-meter-high windows overlooking the back garden.
The room has a social layout with plenty of space for a large dining table and window seats for extra seating space.
The white walls and oak frame are paired with a raw concrete floor.
The kitchen island is the centerpiece of the room, with bespoke, hand-made cabinetry designed by MSDA Architects.
One of the bedrooms is turned into a television room with soft pink walls and wallpaper.
The master bedroom is located at the front of the house and features the same large bay window as the downstairs living room.
A children’s bedroom is created under the pitched ceiling of the second floor with a bespoke, built-in wooden mezzanine bed, wardrobe, and stairs, designed and built by Jan Hendzel Studios.
