Painted Ceilings and 1930s Elements in a Colorful Oslo Apartment
Last week, I published an article about the lack of expressive color choices for the Color of the Year 2027. While muted, natural tones are nice, I personally long for more vibrant, cheerful tones, and I’ve seen that in recent house tours, too.
This apartment in Oslo also embraces vibrant paint colors, from an orange living room ceiling to a yellow kitchen and burgundy dining chairs. With these vibrant colors, the apartment feels welcoming and like a happy place.

The apartment is located on the second floor of a 1930s building in Oslo and is defined by a large open-plan kitchen and living room that forms the social heart of the home.

In the sitting room, light wooden floorboards and original windows with deep niches are paired with a fresh color palette of light blue and orange. The orange ceiling really makes this space unique while also adding a warm yet cheerful look to the space.

A wide opening between the sitting area and the kitchen creates two defined areas while still maintaining a social, open floor plan with light-filled living spaces.

A small built-in closet is fitted with wooden shelves and painted in the same light blue hue as the living room walls.

The kitchen is extremely spacious for a 57-square-meter apartment. Butter-yellow cabinets add a soft color pop, while the ceiling is painted in a darker yellowish-green hue.

The original wooden floorboards and windows add historic character to the apartment.

A round wooden dining table is surrounded by grape red HAY Rey chairs and topped with a blue Louis Poulsen pendant.

The L-shaped kitchen is so big it doesn’t need upper cabinets for extra storage, but a simple display shelf keeps glassware and crockery within reach.

From the hallway, painted in a cheery orange hue and fitted with a classic checkerboard floor, you move into the small bedroom.

The bedroom faces the communal courtyard and features an exposed brick feature wall and a sky-blue painted ceiling.

Wardrobes with sliding mirror doors make the small room feel bigger.

The bedroom opens onto a balcony overlooking the lush green courtyard.

The hallway also features clever built-in storage, including a narrow cabinet used as shoe storage, and a smaller wardrobe with exposed brick walls for coats.

The apartment was listed for sale at Nordvik.
