Period Features and Contemporary Solutions in Gothenburg
On the third floor of a turn-of-the-century apartment building in Sweden’s city of Gothenburg lies this bright and airy apartment where period features are paired with contemporary interiors and design elements.
The creaking wooden floors, beautiful stucco that adorns the high ceilings, and wooden mirror doors give the two-bedroom apartment plenty of character. The interiors are very Scandinavian, using light color tones and natural materials to create airy, welcoming spaces.

The living room is a wonderful, bright space thanks to two large windows and a door giving access to one of the apartment’s balconies. Period features come in the form of original wooden floorboards, high baseboards, and beautiful stucco.
The airy room features a large rug accentuating the sitting area and a large wooden dining table by the window.
The original wooden doors separate the living room from the master bedroom.
The master bedroom is a wonderful, serene space where light gray walls and curtains are paired with light neutrals and brown tones, adding warmth.
The kitchen is the heart of the home, and the room is open to the hall, creating a more airy atmosphere while also connecting the kitchen space with the rest of the house.
The kitchen was renovated a couple of years ago. The new design features light gray cabinets with classic knobs and a Carrara marble countertop. On one side, there is a double row of upper cabinets for extra storage space.
The modern industrial glass wall with sliding doors creates a striking contrast to the preserved original details and gives the room an industrial touch that is both trendy and timeless. And it is also practical as it lets natural light flow into the kitchen.
The second bedroom lies next to the kitchen and has access to the second balcony.
The hall is divided into two parts. The entry is covered with marble tiles while the rest of the hall has a classic wooden floor.
