Bespoke Interiors and an Earthy Color Palette in a Historic Cottage
On the north coast of the English county of Cornwall lies Padstow, a picturesque and much-loved fishing port with a history dating back thousands of years. On a charming street in this town lies Plum Cottage, a small early 19th-century home that has been meticulously designed by HÁM Interiors.
Inspired by English country houses, Ham Interiors created a home where original elements like paneled walls, bullseye-adorned fireplace surrounds, and flagstone floors are supplemented by new additions that seamlessly blend with the old, from bespoke joinery to hand-painted finishes, restored floorboards, and handcrafted upholstery.
A carefully curated color palette of greens, terracotta, and blue creates harmonious and natural interior spaces while the layering of textiles, patterns, and materials turns this home into a visual masterpiece.
During the renovation, the wall between the living room and the kitchen was opened up, creating one big open-plan living area where light can flow throughout the space from the windows in the front and back of the house.
The cozy living room at the front of the plan has walls washed with layered multi-toned paint. The deep window seat overlooks the charming street.
The sitting room is centered around a reclaimed cast-iron fireplace framed by a surround with bullseye motifs. The fireplace is flanked by the original cupboards and shelves.
The kitchen and dining area are located at the back of the ground floor. They are defined by beautiful, large Delabole flagstones.
The bespoke ochre-brown cabinets are designed by HÁM Interiors and topped with marble counters. The open cabinets are paired with a charming cottage-style striped curtain.
The bespoke cabinets are paired with an orange Lacanche range, a deVOL sink, bespoke Francone taps, and a backsplash made of Cornish Delft-style tiles from Decorum in St Kew.
The large island in the center of the space forms the perfect prep area, and the bespoke cabinets are paired with open storage on either side. The ceiling is pretty low in this area, so open storage instead of closed cabinets helps to create an open feeling.
The dining area is located in a pitched extension with a small skylight. The kitchen has a harmonious textile pattern, with red-striped cupboard skirting and a blue-striped seating bench.
To the right of the dining area is a small pantry space, separated by a pretty dark wood and glass room divider.
The original flagstone floors have been preserved in the hallway, and paired with a charming green Lancaster wallpaper.
The cottage has two bedrooms. The master bedroom, with an original fireplace, is at the front of the house and features terracotta orange walls and green skirting.
The room features a wonderful combination of textiles from stripes to floral patterns.
From the upholstered window seat you have a charming view over the rooftops and the street.
The second bedroom is smaller and has a slanted ceiling. The room features tongue-and-groove paneling painted in a soft green shade and sisal carpeting.
The bathroom is magnificent with a sage green freestanding bath from The Water Monopoly, white metro tiles, and the light patterned “Lizzie” wallpaper by Jean Monro.
A charming half screen hides the toilet from view, and the bathroom vanity with a marble top is designed by HÁM Interiors.
The house is listed for £675,000 at Inigo, but it can still be rented as a holiday cottage on Airbnb.
