This Extended 19th Century Lakeside House is a Green Oasis in the City
You can find a piece of country heaven only a 15-minute bike ride from the bustling Södermalm area in Stockholm. This charming, renovated house is hidden between a lake, forest, mushroom fields, and hiking trails, and when you look at the pictures, it is hard to imagine that this home is located so close to a city center.
The yellow wooden house was built in the 19th century, but in 2017 it was completely renovated and extended, using lavish and exclusive material choices and pairing modern design with historic architecture.
The house stands on a lakeside plot with several terraces, a greenhouse, a herb garden, and lush plants. From the sun-drenched jetty, you can jump straight into the water or go on a boat tour. This home is a dream come true for everyone who loves city life and nature.

The old house, built in 1820, has been extended with a modern glass and wood extension, tied together with a large wooden terrace.

From the front door, a long passageway connects the old part of the house on the right and the new extension on the left. It beautifully comes together in this open-plan living space where you can see the new addition with the huge window behind the sofa.

The open-plan living room, kitchen, and dining area are located in the 19th-century part of the house. The sitting area is connected to a glass veranda, perfectly connecting the indoors with the outdoors.

The kitchen is separated from the living area with a half wall featuring a reclaimed window.

The kitchen solid oak cabinets were built on site by Lappvattnets carpentry and paired with mirror doors and drawers with brass handles and knobs. The cabinets are paired with a Carrara marble countertop and classic white backsplash tiles.

The cabinets are painted in a light gray and muted blue shade, creating a calm and harmonious atmosphere.

The kitchen seamlessly blends into the dining area with windows in two directions and glass doors leading to the terrace. The dining space has a wonderful view of the lake, perfect for long dinner parties with friends and family.

The glass veranda connects the indoor spaces with the outdoors. A perfect “in-between” room with plants and seating.

The entire passageway features skylights, flooding it and the connecting rooms with natural light.

At the far end of the house, in the new extension, lies the master bedroom with spectacular floor-to-ceiling windows facing the lake.

The walls in the bedroom are painted in “Green Ground” by Farrow & Ball.

The master suite includes a spacious walk-in wardrobe.

The bathroom is designed into three zones. There is a wooden vanity with double stone sinks in one area, the shower, bathtub, and Japanese washbasin are in the second area, and the wall-mounted toilet and bidet are in the third area.

The wall tiles and floor tiles in Indian slate are from Stiltje.

In one of the bedrooms, the walls are covered with acoustic oiled oak panels, while the walls are painted in a greige shade called “Hardwick White” from Farrow & Ball.

The other bedroom is painted in a yellow lime paint from Jotun Minerals.

The house has a separate apartment that is now used as a holiday rental.

The apartment has a bedroom painted in a deep blue shade (“Oval Room Blue” from Farrow & Ball) and fitted with cabinets under the windows that turn into a desk.

The bathroom is tiny but functional with classic white square tiles on the walls and gray tiles in a herringbone pattern on the floor. The ceiling is painted in a matching gray hue.

The garden features a 21 square meter greenhouse with a brick floor.
