Preserved Midcentury Details and a Red Bedroom in a Stockholm Apartment
A city apartment with lush greenery right outside the windows sounds like an absolute dream, and this midcentury Stockholm apartment has precisely that. The 1940s apartment was renovated in recent years, but the original kitchen has thankfully remained.
The apartment is only 60 square meters big, but its functional layout makes it feel larger. The living room and kitchen are decorated in green tones, which suit the greenery outside very well. For the bedroom, however, the owners decided to go bold. It’s certainly unusual and not something anyone would do, but it’s also pretty cool if you ask me.
But before we see the bold bedroom, we will take a look at the sitting room, which is painted in a soothing sage green hue and paired with an ochre yellow couch.
The room has a new parquet floor which suits the midcentury style of the apartment very well.
The green shades inside, the large windows, and the south-facing balcony show a great connection between indoor and outdoor living. The large trees outside create a very private atmosphere.
The original glass-framed double doors separate the living room from the hall.
Moving on to the kitchen, which is very light thanks to its corner position and windows in two directions. The kitchen is well-planned and charming, and the fine original furnishings, including slanted upper cabinets, fully use the ceiling height.
The doors, with teak handles, are factory lacquered in a lovely pea-green color.
This bedroom is a surprise with all the green tones in the apartment. It is drenched in a brick-red hue—what a bold choice.
The hallway floor is covered with new light gray linoleum carpet, and the walls are wallpapered with the dark version of Josef Frank’s beautiful “Paradise” wallpaper.
