A Charming Semi-Detached House in the First Garden Town of Stockholm
This charming semi-detached house lies in the Gamla Enskede neighborhood of Stockholm. This area was the first ‘garden town’ of Stockholm, and the home we are touring today was built in the early 20th century.
The 1909 house with a deep yellow facade stands on a charming street with historic houses and lush gardens. Original features like the wooden floors, windows, and joinery has been preserved and the living room features a classic Swedish fireplace that was moved from a home in Stockholm’s Gamla Stan (the old town).
The ground floor is home to a charming sitting room and the kitchen. The previous owner moved this pretty Swedish fireplace with green-painted detailing from an apartment in the Old Town of Stockholm. It looks right at home in this early 20th-century house.
The room is small but very cozy. The walls are painted in a warm, neutral beige shade, and there is space for a large sofa and chairs. Behind the sofa, the owners added storage with wall-to-wall cabinets.
Pretty wooden pocket doors separate the living room from the kitchen. When opened, it creates a wonderful social layout with natural light flowing in from two directions.
The kitchen is designed with classic mirror cabinets, brass knobs and a wooden countertop. By the garden window, they opted for only lower cabinets adding a sense of space while the floor-to-ceiling cabinets next to the stove add plenty of storage.
The large kitchen window behind the double butler sink overlooks the garden.
There is an open connection between the kitchen and the hall and the staircase. The spacious kitchen also has room for a comfortable dining table.
The house has two entrances. The main entrance hall features classic white-painted tongue-and-groove paneling.
The guest toilet is decorated with a classic green wallpaper, a green wooden storage shelf, and a black and white checkerboard floor.
A staircase leads you to a small landing on the top floor from where you can reach the three relatively small bedrooms. Two bedrooms are designed in a row with a sliding door between them.
Even though the rooms are small, they do have very large windows, making them bright and offering a lovely garden view.
On the basement floor is another bedroom that is now used as a television room as well as the house’s bathroom.
A smart utility room is hidden behind a tongue-and-groove paneled wall.
The house has a charming garden with two wooden decks on either side. One is designed with a pergola.
The garden also features a variation of trees and flowers.
