Serene Rooms in a Row with Color Accents in an Early 20th-Century Apartment
On the second floor of an early 20th-century apartment building in the Södermalm area of Stockholm, this recently renovated apartment features two original Swedish fireplaces, high ceilings, and a central yet quiet location.
The 62-square-meter apartment retains many original elements, supplemented by new additions in a style that matches the original architecture. The home has a unique layout: a central room flanked by the kitchen on one side and two rooms on the other, divided by double doors, giving the new owner flexibility.

The heart of the home is this living room with a rounded wall and large windows overlooking the greenery of the communal courtyard.

The original wooden floorboards and the Swedish fireplace (a kakelugn) give the room lots of character, while the orange IKEA chair and the yellow sofa add a nice color accent to the otherwise neutral space.

Bookshelves line the wall above the sofa. The walls are painted in a soft beige shade.

The kitchen was built in 2022 by Gamla Stan Kulturbygg. They built the frames on site and used the cabinet and pantry doors from 1906, offering a beautiful mixture of old and new.

The cabinets are painted in Wheat Gray, and they are paired with a stainless steel counter and simple white backsplash tiles.

The corner pantry cabinet offers additional storage, while the doors on the left hide the fridge and freezer.

A cozy breakfast spot is created under the large window facing the courtyard. The extendable table can seat up to four people.

These older apartments often have rooms in a row, creating a lovely see-through like this.

On the other side of the living room is a space that can be used in multiple ways. It is currently used as a second sitting room with the bedroom behind double glass doors.

A cozy seating area sits in front of the glass balcony doors, with the Flower Field rug from Poppykalas x Layered adding a pastel pop of color to the space.

The doors open onto a charming balcony overlooking the central courtyard. The large trees add a sense of privacy.

The walls are painted in “Soft Radience” by Jotun.

Beautiful double doors from Överjärva Byggnadsvård open up the apartment’s bedroom.

This room can be accessed via the hall and the second sitting room. It features the apartment’s second original fireplace, adding a lot of character to the space.

The red cabinet adds a vibrant pop of color paired with the light-colored muted tones of the walls.

The bathroom is simple, featuring dark gray floor tiles with underfloor heating, white wall tiles, and a wall-mounted cabinet.

The entry hall is spacious and practical, with a large walk-in closet just inside the door and plenty of space for additional storage cabinets and a hat shelf for coats.
