A Small 18th-Century Courtyard House in Sweden

In a central location in the Swedish city, Linköping stands a lovely historic house that makes you feel like you’re in the countryside. The small house is located in a quiet courtyard that brings a sense of calm to the house.

The small house was built in 1750, and luckily, you can see some original elements, such as exposed wooden beams, an old fireplace, and a historic stove in the kitchen. As the home is so small, the owners kept the decorating and color scheme calm and typically Scandinavian with light gray and black furniture pieces and decor.

The 44 square meter ground floor offers an open plan living room, kitchen, and two bedrooms. The attic floor has been added to the house to add another 20 square meter to the floor plan, this loft room houses the master bedroom.

The living room is small, and with the wooden ceiling, fireplace, and staircase in the center of the room, it already feels busy. So the current owners decided to decorate the home in a calm style with lots of light gray and black accents.

The small windows and wooden ceiling give this home a cottage vibe and I can only imagine how cozy this room must be when the fire is lit.

The living room seamlessly connects to the kitchen. This room has recently been renovated and now features white cottage style cabinets, blue/orange tiles, and a historic Swedish oven.

When you live small you need to make the most of the space you have. In this room, they opted for a storage bedframe and a desk has been created under the window between to built-in wardrobes.

The attic floor has been converted into a loft space by the current owner. The exposed wooden beams and slanted ceiling give this room a cozy vibe. It would also be a warm snug or reading room instead of a bedroom.
