A Small Stockholm Corner Apartment Updated with a Butter-Yellow Kitchen

I thought I recognized this small apartment in Stockholm, and it turns out I shared the same apartment one floor down just last year (I’ll add a link at the bottom of this article so you can compare the two decorating styles).

The 38-square-meter corner apartment is located in one of Midsommerkransen’s (an area southwest of the center of Stockholm) oldest buildings dating back to the beginning of the 20th century.

Thanks to its corner position and large windows, the small apartment is flooded with natural light. Period elements such as a newly sanded and oiled wooden floor, generous ceiling height, and mirrored doors have been preserved.

I presume this used to be one big room, but at some point it has been divided into a small sitting room and a separate bedroom. The large glazing in the wall lets natural light flow through both spaces, ensuring the rooms don’t feel dark and small.

A cozy sitting room has been created centered around an original Swedish fireplace. The gray walls and wooden floorboards form a perfect neutral base for the space, which is complemented by color pops such as a yellow throw and red cabinets.

The apartment’s biggest selling point are these large windows. Even though the home is small, the windows connect you to the outside world and make the rooms feel bright.

A traditional Swedish fireplace, a kakelugn, stands in the center of the room, creating a warm atmosphere.

The wide open doorway between the living room and the hall also ensures the rooms don’t feel too cramped.

A small pocket door separates the living room from the small bedroom.

The bedroom is a cozy space with room for a 140cm bed, half-painted walls, and wardrobes along one side.

The green tone on the walls creates a soothing atmosphere, paired with the butter-yellow bedding (nodding to the color that we will also see in the kitchen).

The large window and windowsill serve as practical storage for books, lamps, and other small items. Using every available space is important in such a small space.

From the bedroom, you have a lovely view of the characteristic Swedish street below.

The short wall behind the bed is fitted with wardrobes and open shelves for more practical storage.

In the hall, the ceiling height has been taken advantage of by adding a triangular shelf above the front door and the living room entry.

The kitchen has been completely renovated in 2025 with new flooring, new appliances, and butter-yellow fronts that contrast the exposed brick wall and the microcement flooring beautifully.

The butter-yellow cabinet doors are paired with a composite counter (in the bright, speckled color Linen), white backsplash tiles, and oak upper cabinets and shelves. I love the round handles on the doors, adding a playful touch.

Under the window, there is space for a breakfast table seating three. You can also add a seating bench with storage against the brick wall and under the window for extra seating space.

The brick wall is a nice, raw architectural feature in the apartment. All apartments in this block have it because the apartment one floor up does as well.

The fridge is hidden behind the floor-to-ceiling cabinetry along the short wall, which also includes a small coffee corner with a wooden shelf and hooks for cups.

The butter-yellow palette continues into the hall, where one wall is painted in this soft and sunny shade. The hall also includes a small walk-in wardrobe and built-in cabinets for extra storage.

The bathroom is small and simple, with a black-and-white palette. Shelves, a mirror cabinet, and an under-the-sink cabinet provide plenty of storage in the small space.

Floating cabinets, a simple coat rack, and red shoe storage provide plenty of storage space in the (pretty spacious) hall.

The apartment building includes a private, leafy communal garden with flower beds, various seating areas, and a barbecue.

One floor higher than this apartment, an identical home was put on the market last year, and this home was also featured on The Nordroom.

The layout is the same, including the dividing wall between the living room and the bedroom, but the decorating style is different. Those owners opted for a more classical style with wall paneling in the living room and profiled doors in the kitchen with brass fittings.
