A Soft Yellow Kitchen in a Small Late 19th-Century Stockholm Apartment

On the ground floor of a late 19th-century apartment building in Stockholm lies an apartment with its own entrance and a patio that makes it feel almost like your own little townhouse instead of an apartment.

The 51-square-meter apartment is a lovely home featuring a soft color palette and period elements such as high ceilings, stucco, high baseboards, wooden flooring, and large windows that give the small home character.

The apartment features three rooms in a row with the kitchen in the center, flanked by the living room and the bedroom on the other side.

The living room features the original stucco, a ceiling rose, and high skirting boards showcasing the building’s history.

The walls are painted in a soothing beige-sand hue paired with light gray painted floorboards. A former doorway has been turned into a built-in bookcase, while the other (original) door leads to a walk-in wardrobe.

A narrow side table is placed behind the green sofa, creating space for art, decor, and lighting.

A double door leads you out onto the private patio terrace, which runs on the outside of the living room and the kitchen.

The large kitchen window makes it easy to hand over food and drinks when you have guests over.

The spacious kitchen and dining room are located in the center of the apartment. The room was recently renovated, pairing classic materials with modern functionality.

The IKEA base cabinets are paired with butter-yellow doors and fittings from Sekelskifte.

The countertop and backsplash are made of exclusive Bianca Carrara marble with a beveled edge. The stone is treated with Tuffskin, which makes it resistant to stains, etching, and heat up to 200 degrees without affecting the look or feel of the marble. 

A large dining table stands in the center of the room, turning this space into the apartment’s social heart.

The walls are painted in “Stockholm White,” and a newly laid herringbone parquet floor runs underfoot.

Under the large window, a bench has been fitted, turning this into the perfect spot for reading, a morning coffee, or socializing with friends.

On the other side of the kitchen lies the small bedroom, which is just big enough for a double bed. The high ceilings do offer storage space high up on the wall.

The walls are painted in a calming dove blue shade while the wooden floor is painted light gray, similar to the living room.

Arched wall lamps from H&M hang behind the bed, while a simple wooden shelf provides bedside storage space.

From the bedroom, you move into a simple bathroom with white tiles and beige walls.

The front door opens into a charming hall with storage space painted in an oxblood red hue and classic black-and-white tiles running underfoot.

Lastly, I want to take you to the communal hall and staircase of this late 19th-century building. The period features and tilework are simply magnificent.
