A Swedish Apartment with an Open Living Space and Period Features

On the first floor of a turn-of-the-century apartment building in Gothenburg, you will find this charming apartment with an open-plan living space, two bedrooms, and preserved period features.

The renovated 1907 apartment is decorated in a calm palette of soft colors and features a new site-built kitchen. These newer additions are paired with period features like stucco, wooden floorboards, and a beautiful fireplace in the living room. Large windows flood the rooms with natural light, creating an open and airy ambiance.

When the apartment was renovated, the aim was to create a social space for socializing by integrating the kitchen and living room with each other. The result is a fabulous space with high ceilings, large windows, and exposed brick walls.

The sitting area is a cozy space, defined by a light-colored rug. It is decorated with a sofa featuring layered textiles and two wooden armchairs upholstered with the William Morris ‘Golden Lily’ pattern.

In the corner of the room stands a magnificent original fireplace that can still be lit, creating a cozy ambiance in the evening.

The walls are painted in Jotun’s ‘Sparv’. This light and calm color makes the stucco, high skirting boards, and exposed brick really stand out.

A new kitchen, in a classic design, was added to the apartment in 2024. The kitchen from Snek is made of Swedish-grown solid pine, and the cabinets are painted in ‘Catalina Sand.’
