Time Has Stood Still in This Stockholm Studio Apartment
Are we in Paris or Belin? No, this studio apartment, where it looks as if time has stood still, is located in Stockholm. The current owner has brought out and saved as much of the old as possible, creating a small home surrounded by a fantastic atmosphere and patina.
It is a home that shows its imperfections, and you can see that it has been lived in for more than a century. Wooden floorboards are paired with generous 3.3 meter high ceilings, gray lime-painted walls, and charming stucco and molding in the main room.
Throughout the home lie beautiful wooden floorboards, which in the hall and living room are tilted, dark oiled, and varnished, while the kitchen floor is painted white. The wooden floors add a warm and rustic vibe to the living spaces.
The home is small, with a floor plan of only 31 square meters, but the high ceilings and large windows create a lot of volume.
The studio has been decorated with furniture and decor from the past. Old painted cabinets, suitcases, and antique furniture pair so well with the historic bones of the apartment.
A blocked opening has been brought out of the wall facing the bathroom—before the apartments in the house had bathrooms, there was a wardrobe here, which was blocked when the bathroom was built in the 1920s.
The kitchen is spacious and light. The full ceiling height, which was previously lowered, has been brought out by the current owner, and a large window floods the space with light.
Simple white cabinets are paired with a wooden countertop and white tiles. Closed cabinets are combined with open shelves on the wall and in front of the window. These old apartments often have deep window sills, and this kitchen window is no exception. It is turned into an additional storage space.
A charming dining area has been created with an antique round table and two chairs.
The hall is big enough for a place to hang coats and store shoes as well as other storage furniture.
The hall features a beautiful tile from India that was installed in a place where a piece of skirting was missing.
The tiny bathroom (which used to be a wardrobe) is a break from the old-fashioned style. The tiny room is decorated with black and white tiles in a modern style.
Go up in height if you live in a small space. A glass shelf has been fitted above the bathroom door for extra storage space.
