Timeless Charm and Contemporary Design in a 1930s Duplex Apartment
A 1930s governor’s house in Gothenburg has been renovated in recent years, creating a home where contemporary elements and material choices pair beautifully with the charm from the early 20th century.
The apartment is divided over two floors, on the lower floor, you’ll find a charming new kitchen and the bedrooms, while the attic floor is fitted with new skylights, creating a light and airy living space. The entire apartment (except the kitchen and bathrooms) has been painted in lovely shades made of non-toxic paints from Auro.

The kitchen was renovated a couple of years ago in a timeless Shaker style. The spacious room also has a charming dining area in front of the window.

The kitchen cabinets have custom-made doors in a shaker-inspired style from Picky Living, painted in a lovely gray-green color. These green doors are topped with a hard wax oiled oak countertop and a white porcelain butler sink from Shaw.

The green cabinets and oak countertops are paired with tongue and groove paneling, painted in a lovely beige-yellow shade from Jotun (just like the rest of the walls that aren’t paneled).

A vintage wooden table sits under the window, creating a perfect breakfast nook.

On one wall, the kitchen only features lower cabinets, but they also added cabinets that reach the ceiling to maximize storage space while maintaining that open feeling.

A beautiful wooden staircase, painted in a gray-green shade, matching the kitchen cabinets, leads to the attic floor.

While some attic floors can be dark and gloomy, this one certainly isn’t. Huge windows floor the space with natural light and the light colors on the wall enhance that light atmosphere.

The living area is spacious and light with room for a sitting area and a dining table.

The pine floor is treated with white pigmented varnish, and the walls are painted in Auro’s slightly beige off-white color “Patricia”.

The master bedroom is also located on the upper floor. The walls are painted in a soft yellow hue from Auro.

There are two spacious bedrooms on the lower floor. This room has half-painted walls with white at the top and Auro’s color “Dark Jade” at the bottom.

The walls in the second bedroom are painted in the color “Turquoise Patricia” from Auro.

The apartment has a charming bathroom with hexagon floor tiles in white and burgundy and a small freestanding bath.
The apartment was listed for sale at Alvhem.
