Vibrant Colors in a 19th-Century Regency Townhouse in England
The owners of this 19th-century townhouse in Canterbury, England, didn’t shy away from using color in their home. The elegant Regency house has been washed with cheerful colors like red, yellow, and pink, creating an inviting and light family home.
The house is part of a charming terrace with a white stucco and rusticated stone facade. Preserved original elements, like a fanlight-framed front door, wooden floorboards, stucco, and French doors, have been paired with smart built-in storage and a contemporary decorating style.
The ground floor is home to a kitchen at the front of the plan and a utility room and boot room at the back.
The beautiful kitchen has cabinets painted in Farrow & Ball’s ‘Terre D’Egypte’ paired with a marble countertop, white zellige tiles, and the original pine floorboards.
The round dining table is set in front of the tall six-over-six sash window with original shutters, looking out over the front garden.
The back of the ground floor plan has a spacious utility room with light pink cabinets, built-in cabinets, and a door to the back garden.
The boot room features wall paneling and built-in storage painted in a forest green shade, paired with orange shelves and “The Enchanted Woodland” wallpaper by Mind the Gap.
The ground floor’s long L-shaped hall is painted in a golden beige hue and features Moroccan floor tiles and cast-iron radiators.
The front room on the first floor is a light-filled sitting room with built-in cabinets, ornate cornice, high skirting board, and a panelled ceiling. The walls and ceiling are painted in ‘Dorchester Pink’ by Little Greene.
The room is centered around a former fireplace with fresh, turquoise tiles.
French doors with quatrefoil details provide access to the veranda.
The first floor is also home to a beautiful family bathroom with a freestanding bath and a walk-in shower. Geometric Bert and May tiles line the floor, paired with white wall tiles.
The room features some unexpected color accents. The window frame is painted in a soft pink shade, the radiator a bold yellow, and the alcove for the sink is painted in a tangerine shade called ‘Hopper’s Hat’ by Fired Earth.
The top floor is home to three more bedrooms and a bathroom. The master bedroom is located at the front of the plan and is painted in a dusty pink hue.
A partition wall behind the bed creates a walk-in wardrobe with plenty of built-in storage.
The two smaller bedrooms are painted turquoise and beige, while the bathroom features a spacious shower with glossy green tiles and brass fittings.
The house is listed for £925,000 at Inigo.
