Warm and Inviting Rooms in a Renovated Swedish Apartment
This turn-of-the-century apartment in Gothenburg was fully renovated a couple of years ago pairing historical features with modern materials, creating a wonderful blend of old and new.
Original details in the two-bedroom apartment, such as moldings and stucco, provide a beautiful setting. During the renovation, the kitchen was moved to the large space next to the living room, creating a wonderful social living space. In the bedrooms, the ceiling height was raised, matching the three meters you find in the living spaces.

The living room is a cozy and warm room with a large rug adorning the floor and access to the apartment’s balcony.
The ceiling is adorned with stucco, and the walls are painted in Nordsjö’s warm beige color “Misty Sarcelles” which makes white-painted stucco stand out wonderfully.
A wide doorway between the living room and kitchen creates a social, open-plan living space.
During the renovation, all surfaces were repainted, and new vinyl flooring – “Maxwear Ek-Raw” from Golvabia was laid in all rooms, creating a harmonious floor plan.
The wooden bookshelves are painted in the same color as the wall, making them blend in wonderfully.
The kitchen is a wonderfully large space, creating plenty of room to cook and a large dining table can be placed in the center.
The kitchen cabinets are painted in a warm beige shade, pairing beautifully with the off-white walls.
The beige cabinets are paired with an Azul Valverde limestone countertop and backsplash.
The master bedroom is a cocooning space where the walls and built-in wardrobes are painted in Jotun’s ‘Deco Blue.’
The deep blue walls are paired with natural materials and earthy-toned textiles for a warm atmosphere.
A niche in the hall is turned into a charming home office with a black desk and IKEA Ivar cabinets with shelves.
The second bedroom is a children’s room that I’m sure all children will love. The walls are covered with William Morris’ beautiful wallpaper, “Honeysuckle & Tulip,” and there is plenty of space for a comfortable chair and a play area.
In the bathroom, the wall tiles and the tiled floor are from Golvabia’s “Concrete Taupe” collection.
The three-part hall connects the entire apartment, and from here, you can reach all the rooms. The walls are painted in Jotun’s golden pink color “Soft Skin” and the exposed brick feature wall is a nice hint to the history of the building.
The apartment is listed at Alvhem – styling by Emma Fischer and photography by Fredrik J. Karlsson.
