A Warm Nature-Inspired Color Palette in a 1950s Stockholm Apartment
On the first floor of a 1950s apartment building in Stockholm’s Bagarmossen area lies a beautiful one-bedroom apartment where preserved midcentury elements are paired with a warm, nature-inspired color palette.
The 54-square-meter apartment is located in a corner position, featuring large windows on two sides that flood the interior spaces with light, enhanced by the original glass sliding doors between the living room and kitchen.

The finest feature of this Swedish apartment is the warm, nature-inspired color palette. Terracotta, red, blue, and green tones are used to create a colorful yet cohesive palette in the rooms.

The living room is color-drenched in a warm terracotta shade and also features the original 1950s Dutch parquet floor.

Huge windows (typical for apartments built during this period) bring in plenty of natural light and offer views of the trees outside.

The blue chair designed by Fredrik Paulsen for Joy Objects adds a nice extra color pop to the terracotta room.

A glazed door in the living room opens onto a lovely balcony with open views.

A wide opening with a glass-framed sliding door from the 1950s connects the cozy dining area with the living room.

The cozy dining area is fitted with a built-in bench upholstered in a striped dark pink and blue pattern, a rustic wooden table, and blue dining chairs topped with a pink-hued ruffle pendant light.

The kitchen walls feature dark beige paneling topped with light beige walls. Calming and warm at the same time.

While the living room was a terracotta haven, the kitchen is the blue room with a checkered blue and white floor, blue dining chairs, and blue kitchen cabinets.

The kitchen cabinet doors were recently painted a calm blue-gray shade, paired with an oak countertop and simple white backsplash tiles that match the building’s style.

The hall features the original built-in wardrobes with doors that have been decoratively hand-painted.

The bedroom is a dark and calming space, featuring an oak parquet floor and color-drenched in a soothing green hue.

While each room has its own distinctive color palette, hues from other rooms are also incorporated into the spaces. The bedroom has blue curtains and beige-toned bedding.

The bathroom was refreshed last year with a new sink and microcement surfaces. The shower fixture and sink faucet are from Sekelskifte.

On one side, brown wall-mounted shelving has been added for storage. The blue-patterned shower curtain adds some color to the beige and brown room.
