Cornwall is the most southern county in England. With its many beaches, picturesque towns, and laid back atmosphere it’s a favorite spot for the English to spend a holiday.
But of course thanks to its natural beauty it’s also a wonderful place to live. And today I will shade a lovely duplex apartment in St. Ives.
The modern home has been designed by Studio Marin. Though it only has one bedroom, it is situated over two floors. Next to the lovely interiors it also has an amazing view because from the apartment you can look over the bay in St. Ives.
I don’t often start a home tour with the exterior, but when the front door in a sheltered alcove is as lovely as this you have to start here.
The open-plan living room and the kitchen are located on the top floor of the apartment. The room is flooded with light with windows in two directions and skylights in the sloped ceiling.
On the floor in the living space lies bleached American ash flooring.
The cozy sitting area is furnished around a woodburning stove. The color palette of white and nautical blue gives a subtle nod to the maritime history of Cornwall.
The kitchen cabinets are painted in a deep blue shade that is combined with honed marble worktops. The room isn’t big and since they added a dark kitchen to the room it’s clever that they didn’t add upper cabinets. Instead, one shelf provides extra storage space.
Next to the kitchen, a bespoke built-in dining space is created. the benches also provide storage space.
A window seat that provides a wonderful view over the bay.
Downstairs are the bathroom and bedroom.
A small bathroom under the stairs has a combination of terrazzo and green tiles from Artisans of Devizes.
The bedroom is clad in tongue-and-groove panelling that is painted a soft gray shade.
On the other side of the bed are a small bedroom home office/vanity and built-in wardrobes that also add a warm color accent with terracotta orange curtains.
