An Interior Designer’s Colorful London Worker’s Cottage

Interior designer Lonika Chande knows how to combine colors, textures and styles and she shows that perfectly in her own family home in London. The Victorian worker’s cottage was built in 1876 between Kilburn Lane and Harrow Road in London and were designed as affordable and characterful houses for Victorian workers.

Nowadays most cottages have been given a modern renovation and that was also the case with Lonika’s cottage, but she wanted to return the original character of the home so she comletely stripped the home and started afresh. In the sitting room the boarded up fireplace was revealed and wooden paneling was added. And in the bathroom floor-to-ceiling tongue and groove was added and painted in a lovely shade of blue.

Lonika decorated the cottage in strong colors, layered fabrics and antique pieces to create a warm, characterful look that looks like it has been here for years (even though it was put together in a 6-month period). Brilliant!
