Colorful Decor in a Charming Family Duplex Apartment in Stockholm
On the ground and basement floor of a small apartment complex in a leafy suburb of Stockholm lies this charming family home with colorful interiors. Even though it is technically an apartment, it feels like a home as it is divided over two floors and has a private terrace off the kitchen.
The 85-square-meter apartment is divided over two floors. The living room, kitchen, and a bedroom/second sitting room are located on the ground floor, and there are two bedrooms on the basement level. The rooms are decorated in lively color tones, creating fresh, happy, and inviting spaces.

The living room is a charming space with large windows overlooking the communal garden. The walls are painted in a light green tone, paired with a pink and dark blue-green sofa and colorful art.
The house was built in the 1930s and the living room features the original parquet floor laid in a herringbone pattern.
One wall is fitted with a lovely wooden shelving unit for books and decor.
The kitchen is the heart of the home. The large space features light blue walls and gray/white Marmoleum tiles in a checkerboard pattern.
This home is great at adding bright color pops in unusual spaces, like the bottom side of the white kitchen shelves that are painted in a vibrant cobalt blue shade.
The kitchen was renovated a couple of years ago, pairing simple white cabinets with pale yellow handles, a quartz composite countertop, and white backsplash tiles.
On the opposite side is space for a large dining table under the window. Old-fashioned doors that suit the building period of the home lead to a built-in pantry.
The ground floor has an extra room, which is now used as a second sitting room and play area, but it can also be a bedroom or a home office.
The soft apricot shade on the walls is paired with an oak parquet floor and a warm ochre sofa.
The hall features the same checkerboard floor as the kitchen. The walls are decorated with wallpaper designed by the American designer Kate Zaremba.
On the basement floor are two bedrooms. The L-shaped room is painted in a deep apricot color, including the Ikea Ivar cabinets.
Thanks to the open layout toward the staircase, light flows into the basement room on two sides.
Inside the larger bedroom is a second bedroom, which is now a children’s room. Bunk beds are fitted under the stairs, and the walls are painted in a light green hue.

The basement floor also has a powder room with marble floor tiles and dark blue painted walls.
The bathroom was renovated a couple of years ago. The walls are fully tiled in white, and the floor is covered with Italian design tiles in white and gray. This neutral base is paired with a wonderful purple shower curtain and orange decor to make it unique.
The hallway features a small niche used as a cloakroom painted in the blue color “Yves Klein” from the French manufacturer Ressource.
The apartment has a private terrace that can be accessed via the kitchen. It overlooks the communal garden with lush plantings, trees, two seating areas, and vegetable beds.
