A Grand Victorian Villa in Manchester with Bold Interiors
In a leafy suburb south of Manchester stands this impressive red brick Victorian villa with seven bedrooms and multiple living spaces. The 3,854 square feet house is divided over four floors and also includes a detached coach house that has been transformed into a charming guest house.
The interiors of this Victorian villa are bold and dramatic. The period features are paired with jewel-like colors and wallpapers, creating unique and interesting interior spaces. Next to the kitchen and living room, the house has been extended with a glass sunroom, creating a seamless indoor/outdoor living experience.
The ground floor features two living rooms, a kitchen, and a dining room. The smaller sitting room lies next to the glass extension. The room (now a music room) is painted in a vibrant orange shade called ‘Charlotte Orange’ by Little Greene, paired with a dramatic black ceiling.
On the other side of the hall lies the other living room and the dining room, which are separated by stained glass wooden doors. Both rooms get plenty of natural light thanks to large bay windows, meaning the rooms can handle dark colors, like these deep shades from Farrow & Ball. The ceiling in the living room is decorated with a bronze wallpaper from Cole & Son.
The living room and dining room have original fireplaces. The dining room is decorated with the botanical ‘Forest’ wallpaper from Cole and Son (which you can see above in the image with the fireplace).
The bespoke kitchen is designed and built by the Main Company. The wooden cabinets are painted in a combination of ‘Sage Green’ and ‘French Grey’ from Little Greene and are topped by veined marble countertops.
The arched niche has been turned into a cooking space with a Range Master Aga, which is flanked by arched cabinets housing a wine fridge.
The glass extension can be accessed via the kitchen and music room. It is a wonderful space filled with plants, and the original brick exterior has been left exposed.
The first floor has three bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. The bedroom at the front of the plan has a large bay window and an original tiled fireplace. The walls are painted in dove blue on one side and decorated with Little Greene’s Grosvenor Street Primrose wallpaper.
The en-suite bathroom has a yellow freestanding bath and aubergine-colored woodwork. The walls are decorated with GP&J Baker’s Tulip & Jasmine wallpaper.
The entire right side of the first floor is home to a grand master suite with a bedroom, a dressing room, and a bathroom. The dressing room features bespoke wardrobes by the Main Company and a cloud mural by Fornasetti on the ceiling. The flamingo wallpaper is from Arte.
The master suite bathroom is designed in Victorian style with glossy green subway tiles on the walls, a Minton-esque mosaic floor, and an orange freestanding bath.
The top floor is home to four more bedrooms. The grandest room is decorated in Cole & Son’s Hummingbird wallpaper and features a green clawfoot bath under the arched window.
In the basement, the owners created a cinema room with exposed brick walls and a black ceiling.
In the garden stands a coach house that has been turned into a guest suite with terrazzo floor tiles and jewel tones on the walls and ceiling.
The house is listed for £1,950,000 at Inigo.
