New York Vibes in a Stylish Stockholm Apartment
Right in the city center of Stockholm, next to the City Hall, stands a wonderful one-bedroom apartment with high ceilings and an exposed brick wall. In this 43-square-meter apartment, New York meets stylish Scandinavian design. A beautiful exposed brick wall and high ceilings in the living room make you feel like you’re in the Big Apple, but the modern furnishings in light colors and tones are very Swedish.
Even though the floor plan is small, thanks to the high ceilings and the split-level layout, it feels bigger than it is. The bedroom is located in the basement, but despite the low ceiling, it doesn’t feel cramped, thanks to a light color scheme and mirrored wardrobes.
When the apartment was featured on The Nordroom five years ago, the decor was monochrome with gray and blue tones. The new owners added softer color tones in the furnishings and decor and warm tones in the new kitchen cabinets. This creates a nice contrast with the raw brick wall and concrete floor.
The unique layout of the apartment is because it used to be a milk shop, which was converted into a lovely home about seven years ago.
The open-plan living space is a wonderful room with four-meter-high ceilings, a huge window, a brick feature wall, and a concrete floor.
The soft color and texture of the Ligne Roset Togo sofa and the natural, organic ‘Screen Cannage’ pendant from Market Set contrast nicely with the raw brick wall. It gives the living room a wonderful soft atmosphere.
The front door opens immediately into the living room, but they have managed to create a separate entry by using a glass dividing wall.
A dining area is created with a stunning marble table with two ‘Donna’ pendants by Pholc.
The kitchen was renovated a couple of years ago, adding dark oak fronts from Reform. The kitchen is a nice blend of warm Scandinavian style with a touch of industrial design.
A few steps down from the living room you enter the bedroom.
The bedroom is a wonderful calm space with a window that brings in enough natural light, light gray walls and carpet, and enough room for a double bed and wardrobes.
Despite the basement location, the bedroom is pretty light and airy with a ceiling height of 2.2 meters and wardrobes with mirror doors that reflect the light coming from the window.
From the kitchen, a half-staircase leads up to an lovely bathroom with a round sink and brass fittings as well as a shower and a washing machine/dryer.
