A Small Cottage-Style Apartment in London
This row of houses was built in London in 1897, the year of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. Originally named Marlow Cottages, the houses have neat London stock brick façades, bound with red-brick detailing that loops above the windows and ties the street together. And in one of these historic houses, you can find today’s cottage-style one-bedroom apartment.
The apartment is located on the first floor of the building, and when you step inside, it feels like you’re in the countryside instead of London. The house has been completely renovated, reinstating period features, carefully selecting fittings, and adding a neutral color scheme for a calm interior style.
With a 41-square-meter floorplan, the apartment is small. But thanks to the layout, the light color scheme, and the smart storage solutions the apartment feels big enough to live comfortably in.
From the front door, you immediately step into the living room. The room has a real cottage feel with butt-and-bead boarding, a combination of textiles and prints, and a soft color scheme with a moss-green sofa and a yellow side table.
Broad, engineered timber flooring runs from the front door through to the kitchen, adding a warm touch to the rooms.
The cottage feeling is complete thanks to the fireplace with softly patinaed Zellige tiles, a shelf above, and a round mirror.
The kitchen also has a country look with deep green cabinets paired with brass handles and a sink under the window. The extended wooden worktop creates a nice bar area for your morning breakfast.
In the bathroom, the owner added a nice color pop by painting the window trims and bathboard in Little Green’s ‘Tuscan Red’.
The bedroom is a serene space where the walls are painted in ‘Light Blue’ by Farrow and Ball. Despite the small size of the apartment, the bedroom is pretty spacious with built-in wardrobes, a bookcase, and a desk.
