An English Cottage with a Perfect Kitchen
The kitchen of Carole Poirot is one of the most popular articles ever featured on The Nordroom. The photographer lives in a beautiful historic cottage in the English county of North Yorkshire which has now been put up for sale.
And now we can see that her home doesn’t only feature a beautiful kitchen. The four-bedroom cottage is located in the heart of Ampleforth on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. The double-fronted house was built in 1820 and has been carefully restored in the last few years.
The regency cottage features beautiful light rooms decorated with lime plaster walls and a reclaimed wooden parquet floor. While some features in this home are new, like the kitchen, it blends perfectly with the historic features of this English cottage.
The main living room runs the entire length of the house and has a window at the front and the back making it a wonderfully light room. They applied a neutral lime wash on the walls, adding a nice texture to the room.
A niche next to the fireplace has been fitted with wooden shelves.
On the other side of the hallway lies the dining room. The room is centered around a Yorkshire stone fireplace, and the sash window features its original wooden shutters.
The bespoke kitchen is located at the back of the house. The deVOL cabinets are painted in “Mud Lark” by Dulux Heritage, combined with a Silestone worktop and white tiles from Original Style.
A brass hanging rail is fitted under the wooden shelf. It’s perfect for hanging pans. In the previous article that showed this kitchen, the style is more “cozy cluttered,” and more pans hang from the hooks. A link to that post can be found at the end of this article.
The walls have been finished in Venetian plaster, and the current owner has incorporated hardy tiled flooring, which pays homage to the home’s Georgian origins.
The downstairs toilet features a beautiful raw stone wall.
Throughout the ground floor, you will find a reclaimed wooden parquet floor. The walls have been restored with sympathetic lime plaster to aid breathability; this has been paired with chalky Bauwerk lime paint finishes, adding a dash of texture.
The original timber staircase leads you to the first floor. The walls have been stripped back to its original lime plaster.
The master bedroom with subtle pink plaster walls sits at the front of the house. The two arched niches have been fitted with wooden shelves.
The ensuite bathroom has off-white tadelakt plaster and dove grey tiles, offset by traditional fittings, including an elevated cistern toilet, vanity, and shower unit.
The family bathroom has ‘Obsidian Green’ tiles and William Morris wallpaper.
The front garden is bordered by a row of elegant cast-iron railings. Well-established roses, ferns, and camellia line the borders, enhancing the natural beauty of the surroundings. The front entrance porch is enveloped by the sweet fragrance of climbing roses
The cottage is currently for sale at Inigo.
