A Grand Ground Floor Apartment with Dark Blue Walls and a Garden
Today, we are going to revisit one of my favorite homes. I shared a tour of this beautiful ground-floor apartment in a double-fronted Victorian villa a couple of years ago, and this week the apartment has been put up for sale again so we are fortunate to take another look inside.
The 1051 sq. ft. apartment was renovated a couple of years ago, blending grand period proportions and high ceilings with contemporary additions like skylights to maximize light and space. The entire home is decorated in a beautiful color palette of dark blue, pink, and burgundy, creating warm and inviting spaces.
The open-plan living space is a magnificent room orientated towards the private terrace and communal garden. The walls are painted in Farrow and Ball’s ‘Off-Black’ and ‘Peignoir’, two contrasting tones that highlight a light and dark scheme.
The room is divided into three areas, a sitting area centered around a wood burner, a dining area, and a music corner. The sitting and dining areas have glass French doors with teak shutters that connect the room with the outdoors and bring natural elements in simultaneously.
The apartment was extended to add a new kitchen space during a previous renovation. The kitchen is located a few steps down from the living room, maintaining an open feeling while aslo creating a separate space.
The kitchen is painted in the same dark blue hue as the living room creating a continuous color palette. The pitched ceiling is fitted with a large skylight to let in plenty of natural light, he window above the butler sink overlooks the communal garden, and the door opens to a private courtyard with a dining table.
The music corner in the living room hides double doors that lead you to the master bedroom.
The master bedroom is painted in a neutral palette paired with a green wallpapered accent wall using the Portobello design by De Gournay.
The master bedroom has two subtle sliding doors, one leading to a walk-in closet and the other to an en suite bathroom with a clawfoot bath. The apartment’s second bathroom can be accessed via the hall. It has a shower and classic black and white tiles. Both bathrooms are painted in Farrow and Ball’s ‘Brinjal’.
The second bedroom is currently used as a home office. The walls are painted in a soft pink shade, the same as the one used in the living room. The walls are lined with shelves and the room also has built-in wardrobes.
The glazed doors in the living room open to a private terrace where wisteria covers the exterior of the apartment. The terrace seamlessly flows into the communal garden with a lawn surrounded by mature trees.
